Will The Democrats Riot? (Lonsberry)

Apparently, John Edwards has a wife.

John Edwards. The guy with the hair running for vice president with John Kerry.

It turns out he has a wife.

And she said something the other day that makes you stop and think. Or at least it ought to.

It was in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at some kind of campaign thing. It was on C-SPAN.

Which tells you about how important she is.

Anyway, Mrs. Edwards was talking to a Democratic supporter and the supporter said, “Kerry’s going to take Pennsylvania.”

“I know that,” Mrs. Edwards answered.

“I’m just worried there’s going to be riots afterward,” the supporter said.

“Uh, well,” Mrs. Edwards said, “not if we win.”

It was a telling exchange. It raises a lot of questions. Questions most of us aren’t honest enough to explore.

For example, why is it that Mrs. Edwards seems to expect it’s possible for disappointed Democrats to riot after the election but not disappointed Republicans? She seems to say that if George W. Bush wins there could be riots but if John Kerry wins there won’t be riots.

What does that say about John Kerry’s supporters?

Are they less civilized than President Bush’s supporters? Are they less capable of civilly expressing their disappointment? Or have they been so spoon fed rhetoric of victimization that they will presume they have been robbed and opt out of the social compact? If Democrats lose and feel that the election was stolen from them, it will be because the Kerry campaign has crisscrossed the country saying exactly that.

The myth of a stolen election has been a tool of empowerment for Democrats for four years. And if they lose again they will further fan the flames of disenfranchisement and resentment. Not because they are based on truth, but because they bring support to the party.

If Kerry supporters riot in the wake of a Bush win, it will be because the Democrats yelled “Fire” in a crowded theater.

Is there an aspect of race in this matter?

In Mrs. Edwards’ mental image of rioting Kerry supporters, what color was their skin? Was her snap response a stereotypical response that was unfair toward some Democratic voters?

Who exactly are the people she thinks will riot? Will they be upset urban blacks, will they be angry white anarchists? Who will it be?

And what is so fundamentally different about them that they would react differently than Bush supporters?

The sad part of all this is that Mrs. Edwards is right. If Republicans lose, they will call Rush Limbaugh and complain. If Democrats lose, they might take to the streets.

There is a cultural difference between the mainstream of the two parties. Democrats and Republicans are both revolutionaries, but they are fighting in different wars. Republicans are fighting the American Revolution and Democrats are fighting the Bolshevik Revolution.

One is building something up, the other is tearing something down.

At least that’s the perspective of a Republican.

Both sides are sincere and intense, but one side is angry. And Mrs. Edwards has her husband and his running mate – and their masters and minions in the Democratic Party – to thank for that.

There is a nastiness in the Democratic rhetoric that seems unusually harsh. As has been said many times, the Democratic platform seems to be: We hate Bush. Granted, there is certainly animus on the Republican side toward John Kerry and others, but it does not seem to be as personal or as intense as in the Democratic camp.

This isn’t an indictment, it’s a warning. The goal for the Democrats must be to win an election, not start a civil war. And while the politics of anger has been a Democratic staple for years, it has the potential to get out of hand.

At least Mrs. Edwards and that Pennsylvania Democrat think so.

This wasn’t Republicans talking, it was Democrats. And I don’t mean this to throw stones at Democrats. But we all need a better way of doing business. It’s time for the grown-ups to take over. It’s time to build up instead of tear down.

It’s fine to incite people to action, but not to riot.

And a political platform or process that leads to social unrest is unacceptable. Hopefully Mrs. Edwards can get that point across to her husband and his running mate.

Let one or two get as far as the roof. It's much more fun to strangle them close up.

One has to wonder what prompted the question about riots in the first place. Are the Dims learning how to send coded messages through the press from OBL?

If you really wonder, check the links in #26.

After all the mouth-foaming demented rhetoric from Dean, Kennedy, Alborg and the two Dem candidates themselves it shouldn't surprise anybody.

The myth of a stolen election has been a tool of empowerment for Democrats for four years.

The blame lies squarely on the shoulders of the partisan hacks in the Florida and U.S. Supreme Courts who admit now (Bryer sp.) that they followed their own preferences rather than the law. Their actions were unconscionable. What should be beacons of justice, truth and rule of law have become circuses. If there is violence, it is their fault.

Suggestion: Everyone should take one of those cheap throwaway cameras with them to the polls and actually take or pretend to take pictures of the commies standing around with demonrat signs. Then inform them you're turning their picture over to your State Attorney General. Should be great fun! Get em all lathered up.

Democrats suffer from OPTICAL RECTOSIS "a Shitty outlook on Life" (I got this from none other than Barbara Bush in the book "George and Laura")

It's a sense they have of entitlement. If they don't have something, they take yours, without a blink.

If you are in any sense, their sence, better off than they then you owe them something, because you are by definition evil for having more.

Tony has been robbed at gun point, had his wife threatened, and was interviewed by the news recently for having been robbed by a couple of punks that hit nine stores in about six hours on the same day.

I recognized one of them on the store tape as being the same punks that stole my son's bike a few years back, actually his bikes were stolen on six different occasions, but not all by this particular scum.

My son ran into the punk yesterday stealing Bush signs out of peoples yards, when my son approached him and his side kick to object, they pulled a gun and fled. No doubt the same gun they pulled on Tony.

It only takes a couple of bad apples to terrorize an entire neighborhood.

I've always believed that eventually we'd have another Civil War. If worse comes to worse, and the unthinkable does begin, how would we organize and fight? I hope our side is prepared.

Well, you're going to need commo (communications), well, I'm an amateur radio operator, the internet is good but you'll need radio too. Let's hope it doesn't come to that but I'm just pointing out that communications is essential.

I think it's a given that they will riot. Remember, the liberals/Dems aren't voting for Kerry. They're voting against Bush. A Bush victory will just fuel their hatred. They will take to the streets, and I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't a string of serious assassination attempts on the President by the extreme left wing wackos. I really believe that they see this election as the last straw. I wouldn't put anything past them.

We need to get organized. I'm thinking worst case scenario from the Dems if Bush is reelected.

Of course they can't start a civil war, you see they are anti-gun, we are not....I'll take our side every time!

For example, why is it that Mrs. Edwards seems to expect it’s possible for disappointed Democrats to riot after the election but not disappointed Republicans? She seems to say that if George W. Bush wins there could be riots but if John Kerry wins there won’t be riots.

I couldn't help but think the same thing when I read it yesterday. No riots if the Democrats win...and the implication that there will be riots if they lose. Good catch.

What does that say about John Kerry’s supporters?

Are they less civilized than President Bush’s supporters? Are they less capable of civilly expressing their disappointment?...

I said it yesterday in another post...the civility and respect for the process and for people's opinions has been visibly absent throughout this campaign.

Instead of arguing issues and discussing solutions, the Kerry camp has been reduced to namecalling and hatemongering.

We've heard from dropout Michael Moore that Bush--the Harvard MBA--is stupid...and it's been repeated so incessantly by him and other mainstream media sweethearts that it has become their truth. And, if that isn't bad enough, now that the "Bush is stupid" claim has weight, the campaign is applying that same label to Bush voters. Edwards himself said that you'd have to be ignorant to vote for Bush. Kerry's wife said that only an idiot would oppose her husband's plan.

Why the incivility? Perhaps it's because Kerry really doesn't "have a plan"...or perhaps it's because the WTO/anarchist crowd has taken control of the DNC and their message. Who can say for sure.
