"No doubt they are conservative, but aren't the Amish super anti-war as well?"
Yes, but apparently they care most about cultural issues and being very religious, respect the presdents strong faith. There were a lot of news stories about the Presidents campaign making pitches to them and these stories claimed that many Amish attended some rallies for Bush in PA.
But your right, they are a real wildcard. I don't think anyone knows how many will show up (after all you can't call them) or how good of job the Bush campaign did in reaching out to them. Thats why i was curious if PA or OH voters saw larger then normal Amish turnout at their precincts.
I guess we will have to wait and see and keep our fingers crossed (as if they aren't crossed already!).
Yes. In general, I don't think voting is a natural thing for young people. I voted enthusiatically this year but when I was 23, it just felt very weird.
I registered to vote the day after I turned 18. Didn't actually "pull the lever" til I was 36....go figure...
Did my part today! Ohio, PA, FL, Wisconsin, Iowa, Michigan, New Mexico..let's hear from you!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool, a live election day thread. We going to vote later this afternoon, but expect things to be fairly quiet around here.
President Bush after voting in Crawford - "It was such a wonderful feeling to vote. The election is in the hands of the people."
"I slept very little and when I did get up I was pacing."
Same here. Slept maybe 2 1/2 hours. Gave up and got up at 1:30 a.m. this morning. Went to 6:30 Mass and then straight to vote. It went smoooooth as silk. In and out and it felt so good! GO W!
Our daughter will vote later this morning in her first presidential election. This is the 10th presidential election for my wife and me. I'm expecting to be 7-3 in voting for the winners after President Bush is re-elected.
I voted! Poll had normal turnout for the morning. Interestingly enough, there was a LA Time pollster outside the door taking exit polls.
Mr & Mrs SV voted. W will get at least 2 votes from behind the maple curtain.
St Marks Episcopal Church on New Hope Road is my polling place. I kept telling my husband to tell the MoveOn lady to "move on" herself but he wouldn't do it:)
Fingers crossed, not only for a victory tonight, but a clear mandate. If that happens, then it's time to really get excited because we can seriously expect to see the kind of comprehensive legislative moves you don't see all that often from our side---tax reform, Social Security reform, etc.
A hopeful conservative bump that the next four years eclipse the last four in furthering the cause in this country.
Whooohooo!
My vote is IN! :-)
Four more years!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks! My dad's polling place is out on Durant Road, so I will tell to keep his eyes open.
Priceless!
The President just voted in Crawford and will be on his way to Ohio, then to the WH to watch the returns. Laura Bush is really a very beautiful woman.
I admit it. Yesterday I was feeling very very nervous due to the fluctuating polls. But today I am feeling GOOD!!! I now am very confident of a Bush win. A BIG Bush win....BUT don't be complacent. If anybody hasn't voted yet---PLEASE VOTE!!!
GWB was just live on FOX from Texas. He said a lot of people can take a position, I take a stand. A leader has to be firm and resolute. Go W!
Already voted, 3 here for Bush, including an 18-year old daughter. Don't give up on our youngsters, they are smarter than people are giving them credit for. And by the way, from what I'm seeing, they aren't afraid of being called a right-wing extremist bigot! The kids at my daughter's HS are very vocal - lots of pins, t-shirts and bumper stickers at that campus. It must drive their teachers crazy. :-)
