WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Concerned Women for America (CWA) says Sen. Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania) disqualified himself from chairing the Senate Judiciary Committee when he promised to use a litmus test for judicial appointments.
"Sen. Specter has repeatedly made it clear that he will block appointments of federal judges who do not pass his pro-abortion litmus test," said LaRue. "It goes without saying that it is absolutely unacceptable to use 'specter vision' to critique judicial nominees."
"President Bush says his only litmus test for judges is whether they will interpret the law and not write it. Sen. Specter is openly opposed to the president and the Constitution on this."
In a letter sent today to Sen. Bill Frist (R-Tennessee) and all the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee, CWA expressed the following concerns: Sen. Specter has dismissed as "unlikely" the notion that he would allow a nominee who does not support the manifestly unconstitutional Roe v. Wade decision to be confirmed to the Supreme Court. Sen. Specter has signaled in advance that he does not intend to conduct the Judiciary Committee in a fair and impartial manner. Therefore, he has disqualified himself from consideration for that position.

Dear Senator Frist:
I read with disdain, the comments of Arlen Specter regarding potential Supreme Court nominees. I also read that he may be the leading candidate for the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
I sent an email to Mr. Specter this morning.
"It's not a woman's right to choose. It's a woman's right to decide to kill her baby rather than having to undergo the trauma of actually birthing it and giving it to a loving family to raise it. That, Senator, is a choice. Killing it is murder."
If I heard the exit polling data correctly, 20% of the electorate indicated that "values" were the overriding determining factor in their choice for President. America and President Bush deserve a Judiciary Committee Chairman who represents the values of America. Having a litmus test for Supreme Court justices to support Roe v. Wade is very wrong.

Roe v Wade - the Dred Scott decision of the 20th century.
The turmoil of its revocation may well be almost a severe a shock as was the aftermath of Dred Scott.
But it must happen.
Odder still is Bush's insistence on staff/appointee loyalty and discretion, that he never seems to apply to supposed political allies.
Remove Spectre! Re-nominate Bork!
Here's my letter to Sen. Frist:
===== quote =====
Dear Senator Frist,
First of all, please excuse the "fan mail" from Wisconsin! I've been watching your tireless efforts in the Senate, and I'm a great admirer of yours! Thank you for all your hard and skilled work!
I write out of grave concern--because of the strong possibility that Sen. Arlen Specter may be "tapped" to chair the Senate Judiciary Committee. As a pro-life Catholic who is delighted to see the President--and the Republican Party as a whole--embrace a culture of life, I'm extremely distressed to contemplate the idea of Sen. Specter imposing a "biased eye" on Senate nominees. Even abstracting from pro-life concerns, it seems uncommonly unfair for a Senator--who has explicitly *boasted* of his intentions to block pro-life nominees, regardless of their qualifications--to be put in a position where such bias has tremendous influence. In essence, Sen. Specter would be given a "one-person Senate veto" over any qualified nominees who did not toe the "pro-choice" platform! I hope you can understand why I find this troubling!
As an aside: it's still a mystery to me why President Bush made such efforts to support Sen. Specter's past primary campaign; but the experience leaves me with two impressions: (1) Sen. Specter owes President Bush a great deal, but the Senator from Pennsylvania has done everything but spit in the President's face, for his troubles; (2) whatever debt the President might feel he owed Sen. Specter--be it past assistance, loyalty, etc.--that debt, from my point of view, has been paid in full, at very least! I see no reason why Sen. Specter should be given the honor of a chairmanship... especially in a venue in which he's all but promised to be unforgivably biased. Please, Sir, make every effort to fill the Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee with an unbiased, worthy person; please keep Sen. Specter in venues which will not warp the judiciary of this country even more horribly.
Thank you for your time, sir; God bless you and your efforts!

Following is excerpted from article dated 2/8/04 at link above. Just like Kerry, nothing Specter can say can undo his liberal record.
Listing Specter's attributes, Forbes notes that Specter is:
"one of the biggest taxers in the Senate"
"one of the biggest spenders in the Senate who Citizens Against Government Waste listed as one of the Senate's 'Kings of Pork' in its Pig Book"
"an enthusiastic advocate of racial preferences"
"a major roadblock to tort reform"
"an admirer of the International Criminal Court. . ."
"Mr. Specter is not just a liberal. He is a dangerous liberal whose betrayals over the years have seriously harmed both our nation and our cause."
Forbes provides a few of Specters "betrayals":
"In 1987, Arlen Specter betrayed then-president Ronald Reagan by helping Ted Kennedy smear Judge Robert Bork to keep him off of the Supreme Court."
"In 1999, Mr. Specter embarrassed himself by invoking 'Scottish Law' and voting 'Not Proven' in the Senate impeachment trial of Bill Clinton."
"In 2001, Arlen Specter once again turned his back on his fellow Republicans when he worked with the liberal Democrats to undermine President George W. Bush's first tax cuts."

I sent my email to Frist and to my senator Dole earlier today...let's go Freepers. The battle was won on Tuesday, but the war for America continues!!! We cannot allow the complacency of '94 to set in. Let's grab this and show true conservatism, starting with the judiciary.
senator_frist@frist.senate.gov
I called Sen. Hatch's office a few minutes ago. The Republicans have voluntarily term limited their chairs' terms. Sen. Hatch is out at Judiciary when the new term begins in January.
Senator Grassley is next in line but he doesn't want the job.
This puts Spector next in line. Although Senator Frist actually appoints the Chairman, it traditionally goes according to seniority.
I voiced my view to Hatch's Judiary staffer that Spector would be a big mistake. The response was that there has been a lot of feedback to that effect.
I was then asked if I would like to voice my opinion on the "Leadership Hotline." I said yes. The voice mail line informed me that this was Frist's message line. I dumped an earful of anti-Spector on it.
Well, it doesn't look like Arlen is a friend of Bush. He threatened him not to dare send a pro-life name up to the Judiciary. I think Jan LaRue of CWA has him dead to rights.Another thread talked about Grassley of Iowa serving as chair of the Judiciary. With him we would have better luck.
........let's go Freepers.........
Write Sen Frist and tell him to just say no to Arlen Specter running Judiciary.
senator_frist@frist.senate.gov
FReeper ALWAYS RIGHT is creating a ping list about the Spectre. Get on the list and stay informed.
Isn't Sen. Specter the clymer that consulted ancient Scottish for his opinions about our government. We already fought that war once Arlen. If you didn't notice, we now have a constitution.
Partial birth abortion is murder."
The other alternative is too not get pregnant in the first place.
(if he said these things)
...perhaps the senator needs to change his meds
And, let's not forget that Arlen Spector was an investigator for the Warren Commision and is responsible for the innovative(?) "magic bullet" theory used to "prove " that Lee Harvey Oswald was the lone assasin who killed JFK. Sorry, Arlen, I've been around firearms too much to believe one man could fire so accurately in the allotted time using a piece of _ _ _ t Italian surplus rifle.
And to think this guy is lamenting the lack of "legal giants" on today's Supreme Court. Whatever happened to Robert Bork, anyway?
Brit says he back peddled....I want him sacrificed to the Judge Gods. Get him out of there.
