I know someone who was seriously injured as a child when he was struck by a car after hiding in a curbside leaf pile. Don't ever let your kids do this.

To mvpel, sorry, I think I misread your post. You're right -- it's not a good idea to park on a pile of dry leaves in any case.

OMG...this is heartbreaking. :( I will pray for the families of these little girls and of course for both little girls. This is terrible and I can't imagine how awful the father must feel. I am numbed by the news and hope other little children are reminded of this kind of danger. So sad.
My best friend in grade school died this way. I have never forgotten her. I think about her every year at this time. I always warn my kids and their friends about playing in leaves on a road or driveway. I remind any driver I am with to never, ever, run over a pile of leaves on the road.

This is tragic. My uncle nearly smashed my cousin and I while we were hiding in a leafpile. We got the tanning of our lives.
That's awful. Poor little girls. I can't imagine how the father feels. Praying for them all.
As a father, words utterly fail me.
I'm with you on that. The mere thought horrifies the breath out of me. I can't imagine... but even the edge of imagining is a waking nightmare.
