METHUEN, Mass. -- A 10-year-old girl was killed when her father parked his truck in a pile of leaves in which she and a friend were hiding, the family said. The other girl was seriously injured.
Family members said 36-year-old construction worker James Gravel did not know he had run over the girls until he got out and heard daughter Natalie calling him.
"She said, 'Daddy, I can't breathe,"' said Gravel's sister, Jennifer Gravel.
Natalie died at a hospital of head and chest injuries. Eight-year-old Meredith Reid was in critical condition Thursday.
Police said no charges were planned.
Gravel's two other children, ages 11 and 7, were in the truck at the time.
And remind your children, if you have them, to be very very careful when playing near driveways!!
Aw geez...this is awful. : (
Prayers for the little ones and their families.
Prayer said.
How tragic
I am going to do a Rosary now.
Oh how heartbreaking. We played in the same huge leaf piles when I was a child.
The poor father. My prayers are with the family and for the injured girl.
I can't even imagine.
Prayers sent.
Please Lord comfort this family!
OMG, I was just thinking about this the other day while driving around my neighborhood and seeing the leaf piles on the side of the road.
I remembered how we used to hide in them as kids and I thought about how easy it would be for a car to pull right over one with a kid inside.
What a tragic story. Makes the pit of my stomach ache. Prayers for everyone involved.
That is incredibly sad. My prayers are with that family.
:(
when i was little my parents always warned me about that. sad!!!
prayer bump
Just heartbreaking......how awful.
Prayers for this family.
I always learned that parking your car on top of flammable materials is a nice way to start a fire with your catalytic converter.
That's just horrible. Prayers sent for the families of both girls. May God especially comfort her father. You know he's in unbearable emotional pain.
I read this story on Drudge...how awful for the family!...Can't imagine the grief...
I pray to Mother Mary that these children will be blessed. This is awful! It's so difficult here in the fall, such a mess! As usual we are always in a hurry and don't take the time to "think"! For every parent out there think safety first!!
It's not just a cliche!
A father's absolute worst nightmare.
