Activity or lack of activity WRT sunspots has been linked to global temperatures since the 15th century. There has been no proven causation between man made activity and global warming.

Here is an interesting article from the Cato Institute that is authored in part by Fred Singer, who is a professor of environmental studies, that disputes the claim that global warming is occurring See Link. Singer bases this conclusion on readings obtained from satellites and weather balloons.
