I've read Bush's plan (perhaps from the whitehouse website - can't remember) and it didn't mention amnesty. It mentioned those who had jobs and nothing longer than 2 or 3 years. If he said something else then I'd like to see it.

and it didn't mention amnesty.

No but it does mention a method by which illegals can be granted legal status. Just words, but they mean things.

That's my point. He doesn't have to call it amnesty. He can call it supporting human rights and just let them stay. Or use some other euphemism for amnesty.

It's clear though, that he intends to let them stay regardless of what the American people want, or, should expect from our government (the enforcement of our current laws). There are enough people in power that see this influx of illegals from the south as a positive for our society. I don't see it and neither do most Americans.

To be honest, it isn't what you read or didn't read that matters. The Bush plan is being portrayed in Mexico, in the Mexican press, as amnesty. The perception of amnesty, whether it exists or not, is all the incentive they need to flood my back yard.

That got two mighty fine people killed two weekends ago, and I'm getting fed up with it.

it is worth mentioning that WE HAVE AMNESTY NOW!

ANY illegal (and family) that has managed to survive and hide for ten years inside the USA can and DO petition for permanent residence. It is VERY liberally granted in the absence of specifically listed violent crimes.

I think the worker program is comming because it is only a simple expansion of an existing temperary worker program. We should make our efforts focus on temp workers NOT being eligible to convert temp status to permanent residence same as an I-94w program.
