"Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch, the current head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, predicts Arlen Specter will succeed him as chairman of the panel, despite controversy over comments made by the Pennsylvania Republican."

We can't let this happen; come January, we have to increase the volume.

I'm with you. I hate to sound discouraging, but don't you wonder how much our voices REALLY matter to our elected officials?

Absolutely. Voters have spoken, Republicans have a majority in both houses, lots of governors and state houses, Bush has a second term, and the Republicans in the Senate are cowering in corners, scared of their own shadows, acting as though they need to kiss the ***** of the liberals or someone will shout "BOO" at them.

Makes me sick.

My suggestion is that we increase the volume when Specter does something we don't like. His appointment is a fait accompli.

Frankly, we may need to increase the volume on a number of Senators if they don't approve conservative judicial appointees.

I called Hatch's office today, along with the offices of the other Judiciary Committee members.

Verizon Wireless is a great thing. It used to cost $5 to call D.C. on the landline, now it's "free".

Do it now, and keep the heat up.

Here is a petition to sign.

Liberty Counsel, Concerned Women for America, NRTL, and many other grassroots orgs are keeping the heat up.

I sat last night and contacted every GOP rep we have. If you do not have the time, contact the judiciary committee members.

Use short, punchy comments to grab their attention.

I have a couple of different gut feelings:

1. That the "Specterites" are trying to float a trial balloon - there's just too much time between now and January. That's enough time for anything to happen. IMO, if we don't make this our line in the sand, they'll know they don't have to take us seriously regarding other issues.

Or 2. The "Specterite" leadership is trying to convince Arlen that everything's cool, and they'll have the full GOP Senate vote someone else in. That way, the "Specterites" can tell him, "Well, we tried....

We have seen the GOP Senate fold like a cheap camera time and again. I can't imagine they'd EVER hold Arlen's feet to the fire, once they got him into the Chairmanship. I'd go with #1. They're testing us, and trying to placate us at the same time. "Specterites" are disconnected from the reality of the Daschle lesson.

I'm really convinced that NOW is no time to stop. We don't have the luxury of rolling over. Hatch and Santorum have no right to basically tell us that a Specter Chairmanship is how it's going to be, like it or not.

This fight is our line in the sand.

And someone ought to inform Santorum that the ends don't justify the means.
