Editorial caricaturists crossed line with black stereotypes, say some

The New York Times and Washington Post have featured editorial cartoons this week that, in another age, might have found their place on the pages of a Ku Klux Klan newspaper. And they have some crying racism over their depictions of National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice, the president's nominee to replace Secretary of State Colin Powell.
Jeff Danziger, cartoonist for the New York Times, used Butterfly McQueen's line from "Gone With the Wind" "I don't know nuthin' 'bout birthin' babies" to have Rice deny knowledge of the aluminum tubes at the center of the debate over the administration's rationale for believing Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.
Washington Post cartoonist, Pat Oliphant, depicted Rice as a jabbering, "anything-you-say-boss" parrot with exaggerated lips telling the president how great he is.
Doonesbury, the nationally syndicated columnist, drew a four-panel strip that has Rice confirming former National Security Advisor Richard Clark's accusation that she didn't even know who Osama bin Laden was before 9-11 and the president addressing her as "Brown Sugar."
The use of racial stereotypes exaggerated physical features, ebonics, subservience have raised more than a few hackles.
"This stuff is grotesque," Rush Limbaugh told his radio audience "No American, certainly not a person of Dr. Condoleezza Rice's stature, should be treated like this. It is a new low. It is an absolute new low for the left. ... They claim to be holier than thou. They claim to be above all of us when it comes to understanding the downtrodden and minorities. They claim to be the only ones that have the ability to have the compassion and understanding, and yet they get away with racism. They get away with bigotry."
The uproar over the Washington Post cartoon apparently caused Jeff Danziger to delete it from the archive he maintains at his own website.
"The depiction of Dr. Condoleezza Rice by Jeff Danziger, Pat Oliphant and Garry Trudeau as an ebonics speaking, big lipped, black mammy who just loves her 'massa' is a disturbing trend in editorial cartoons," added Michelle D. Bernard, senior vice president of the Independent Women's Forum (IWF). According to the group's website, IWF was "established to combat the women-as-victim, pro-big-government ideology of radical feminism ... by advancing the principles of self-reliance, political freedom, economic liberty, and personal responsibility.

Liberals are hypocrites.
My guess is that although the AA community is not speaking out against this trash, they won't forget it.
It appears as though liberal's "soft bigotry of low expectations" has turned into hard bigotry of hatred.
The democratic party can only survive if the black people "stay in their place". And many black people, even those in high places still believe they must have white men take care of them. This is why they turn on their own.
My theory anyway.
They are afraid that Condi Rice will use the SecState position as a stepping stone to the Presidency. Then HORRORS, "The First African-American President" will be a Republican, "The First Female President" will be a Republican and "The First African-American Female President" will be a Republican.
What will the 'rats do then? Well I guess they could aim for "The First Lesbo-Hispanic" President.
Good point... as long as it's only folks on the right shouting about this, such racism will be ignored.
Just another fine example of DemLib hypocrisy as I see it.
They pander, scour, scramble and scrabble for both the womens' and the blacks' votes in all arenas and typically promise them the earth, moon and stars with a DemLib administration... and for decades, it's worked like a charm though that now seems to be changing just a bit, at least.
But... let Bush nominate likely one of the most brilliant, capable and talented women (who just happens to also be Black) on the planet to be SoS and all Hell breaks loose!
Talk about eating your young so to speak!
I hope that the gun they're using on their own feet has a fully loaded, pre-ban, hi-cap mag in it...
