In his original written report, Sites, the correspondent who videotaped the shooting, doesn't mention the medical treatment provided to the injured enemy combatants, but he does note that four of the combatants were some of those who had been left behind from the firefight on Friday. If the NBC reporter knew that from being there the day before, why didn't he tell this new group of Marines before they rushed into the room?
I saw an earlier portion of the same video with our Marines going up to the building. They can hear noises from around the corner. "Are you Marines? what are you doing here? the tank almost killed you."
The marines already there say - "We were the ones leading the tank".
New Marines: "Anyone in there."
"Yeah, some wounded Iraquis, from yesterday"
From Yesterday?
Yeah
The troops move inside the building and then the sooting happens. The camera is trained on two Iraquis slumped against a wall. It looks to me like the older guy on the right begins to move. Then you hear a shot or two and the camera pans over to a Marine pointing is rifle towards the floor. I'm not sure I see what he is aiming at. I've heard other reports say the camera isn't pointing at the Marine that shot the guy.
I've only seen the video a couple of times awhile ago.
Obviously lots of confusion. (Imagine that!)
This Marine better not be found guilty of anything. I can't imagine going through the kind of hell they go through - and then be brought up on charges because you're trying to save your life and your buddies' lives. God bless our troops.
