George Bush will, he says, be spending some political capital on revamping the tax code. Let us hope he pursues this goal with the same iron determination he has shown in transforming Iraq. Simply stated, the federal tax code is a scandal that puts the lie to any legitimate claim of personal liberty in this country.

I hate this talk of political capitol. He has all the capitol he wants short of bringing down Repubs in Congress because he doesn't have to think about re-election. Economy-wise, if he buckles down and gets something done, that will be his legacy just as much as 9/11.
yeah the political capital concept is silly. he should stick to conservatism and work towards lowering taxes and cutting spending. if he tries to spend his capital on things republicans dont like we will be angry whether or not he feels he has this mythical capital.
Now if we could just get him as interested in cutting spending as he is in cutting taxes, THEN we might actually get somewhere (besides deeper in debt, that is).
