U.S. Warns Israel Against Future Arms Sales to China

The United States has warned Israel against selling arms to China, saying that such deals could come up against American opposition, especially if the weapons sold are capable of inhibiting U.S. military actions in the region.

The Americans are worried by any possible escalation between China and Taiwan.

Israel and China signed an agreement three months ago settling a dispute over the U.S.-scotched sale of a Phalcon early warning system slated for installation on a Chinese air force Ilyushin plane. The United States opposed the deal, because the system could have endangered American planes in the area by giving the Chinese advanced over-the-horizon radar-detection capabilities.

I hope Israel doesn't find a way to make China happy - They should think more on what is going on between China and Iran -


Unless of course they (Israel) wants to aid the Arabs in the loss of the nation - wondering - does everyone really belive China wants all these resources to take care of their people - Like when did that thought invade China - ()

Maybe if the Israelis choose not tho respond to our governments request, we should stop all the annual stipends that we currently give to Israel. Israel also uses these funds to supplement their weapons manufacturers so that they can be more competitive with our Department of Defense suppliers.

Whats weird is that China is quickly seeing the beuty of a capitilst system, and an armed China could be a great ally in the future, espically as the new genereration of Chinese take over the country, many of whom embrace the capitilist system more so than many Americans, which is evident in the surge in commercialism there in the past few years.

Why is US permission so important for buying the Israeli manufactured product?

America is Israel's key ally and a collaborator in Israel's development of several cutting edge military technologies. The Israeli Aircraft Industries, which produces the Phalcon, has an agreement with some European and US firms, including Raytheon for further research, development and marketing of the Phalcon. India too was given the Phalcon only after US permission. The US had threatened to withdraw financial assistance to Israel if it went ahead and fitted the system on a Chinese plane, which had landed in Israel in 2000."
