The media have tried. They have failed thus far. If Iraq goes the way those dastardly neocons believed it would, the press can kiss its sorry arse good bye. They had zero credibility after spending whatever had remained trying to get Kerry elected and now they are moving into negative territory. Is such a thing possible? I guess it means that whenever the press "report" something, rather than just ignore it people will now assume the opposite to be true.

Yeah, it can go negative. The former Soviet press was a standing joke in Russia back in the day. Now it has all the cred of the national enquirer.
