Or, more specifically, a dishonest anti-abortion group.
I wasn't trying to imply that there is a significant difference in pregnancy related death rates between women who wanted to be pregnant and women who didn't. Although there would be some difference, as there are plenty of women who are trying not to become pregnant because they've been advised that some pre-existing condition would make it life-threatening for them -- for them RU-486 would certainly have a lower death rate than carrying pregnancies to term.
But my point was, given unwanted pregnancies, if all the women who had taken RU-486 had instead carried (or attempted to carry) the pregnancies to term, the death rate would almost certainly have been higher. Pregnancy and childbirth are not risk-free processes, and hollering about a tiny handful of deaths "associated with" (note, that is not the same thing as "caused by") RU-486 does not provide one iota of evidence that RU-486 is more dangerous than carrying a pregnancy to term.
It does not speak well of the anti-abortion movement as a whole, that this sort of junk science routinely gets an enthusiastic reception. It's not much different than the envirowackos, who enthusiastically applaud every little pseudo-study that claims to show we are on the brink of global disaster from human-caused global warming.
So true. A lot more people have died from Tylenol than from RU-486.
So we have a pill that allows a woman to flush a human life down a toilet. We are becoming exactly like the terrorists who would not think twice about shoving a knife in your throat.
"then Congress should step in and do so"
You know that won't happen. It won't happen until the deaths of women reach a high number.
Funny how this outfit isn't interested in publishing the much longer list of deaths from pregnancy complications in women who decided to try to carry an unwanted pregnancy to term.>>
Ha, ha, Funny how you never provided a list.
What procedure did you have done with your abortion?
"Pregnancy and childbirth are not risk-free processes,..."
No, they are not, but in the modern era the rate of death from pregnancy and childbirth is EXTREMELY low. The idea that abortion is safer than pregnancy and childbirth is one of the evil lies promoted by the abortion industry. They strive hard to maintain it through supression of abortion related morbidity and mortality statistics.
To me it is clear, abortion disrupts a natural process, it is entirely unreasonable and illogical to think that it is, or could ever be, healthy or safe.
When carried out by a qualified doctor in a properly equipped facility, and when follow-up care is sought for any complications, the death rate from abortions is close to zero. Most of the deaths reported are in women who had obvious and severe complications, and for whatever reasons, didn't seek follow-up care. Failing to get proper follow-up care for childbirth complications like bleeding or infection, or failing to seek prompt medical attention for common pregnancy complications like preeclampsia or ectopic pregnanices, is also the source of most pregnancy and childbirth related deaths. In most cases of death related to either abortion or pregnancy/childbirth/miscarriage, the proximate cause is the patient's failure (deliberate or due to circumstances) to get medical attention when its needed. At least in the case of abortion, the patient is already at the doctor once, and advised of what complications to look out for. Many of the pregnancy/childbirth/miscarriage deaths occur in women who never went to a doctor at all regarding their pregnancy, or were taken to an emergency room after it was too late.
Maybe you had best qualify "death rate". I'd wager it is pretty close to 1 death per 'procedure', not counting the mothers..
Not only that but the rate of death for a child during an abortion are about 99.9% and God help us for the ones that do survive the initial abortion and go to term. When did we become a nation of convenience instead of a nation of caring.
The pro-lifers warned of these dangers even before the pill was put on the market....
