Dennis Prager made a good point, though, and on that day, a lot of people in my neighborhood said 'what the heck' and put the Bush bumper stickers on. He made the point that we were going to say what we wanted to say and they couldn't control us with their vandalism.
BTW, Magnetic bumper stickers are the way to go when surrounded by hate.
