It does to anyone, conservative or liberal. You think the libs are eager to see the next Mel Gibson film? Or take a hypothetical. You discover that your favorite actor actually supported, in retrospect, the slaughter of all those innocent priests and nuns in the Spanish war by the Commies. And he has a film in the theaters. It'll matter. It should. It always has, and always will.
Truthfully, I never really cared what actors thought or didn't think. I've known a bunch of them, successful, struggling and in-between, and I can tell you that acting and intelligence are mutually exclusive. They can "act" intelligent on talk shows, but it's just an act. That's not to say that I don't respect what they do, because it's a difficult job. However, I wouldn't listen to a word they say in regards to anything outside their profession.
If you want insight into any actor, imagine a very bright eighth grade student. Now, imagine that student pretending to be an adult and doing a pretty good job of it -- that's your basic actor.
Wait, wait -- I just thought of a better example. Do you know how people sometimes attribute intelligence to cats? In your heart of hearts, you know they're just dumb animals with brains the size of walnuts, but at times they act intelligent. That's your basic actor.
Again, this isn't meant as a slam against actors, but that's simply what they are, not terribly bright people capable of simulating intelligence.
