Queens family arrested for weapons cache
New York City News ^ | December 4, 2004 | LUIS PEREZ AND ROCCO PARASCANDOLA

Police discovered a cache of weapons in the Rockaway home of a man pulled over for speeding, police said yesterday. ...Stephen Maloney, 45, has no links to any criminal groups, police said. Rather, they said, it appears that he collects guns and that he was carrying one in his car because he felt threatened by local teens with whom he had a recent dispute. advertisement advertisement When Maloney was pulled over Friday night at Beach 100th Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard, he had a loaded Derringer -- an old-fashioned weapon -- police said. Later, as he was being questioned at the 100th precinct stationhouse, Maloney -- dressed in military fatigues, admitted that he had more guns in his apartment, at 178 Beach 92nd St. Maloney was charged with multiple counts of criminal possession of a weapon, as were three other people in his apartment when police showed up: his wife, Debra Maloney, 50, and two other men who live in the three-family house, William Schreiber, 51, and his brother, Emil Schreiber, 44. Piekarski described Stephen Maloney as a "gun buff" and said that while it does not appear he was intent on wreaking havoc, police are glad to have recovered a significant number of guns. "We got a lot of guns off the street," Piekarski said. "Even though we feel he may not be a really bad guy, these guns can cause very serious injury or death to someone on the street." Neighbors said Stephen Maloney delivers for a nearby pizzeria. They also said he had his tires slashed about two months ago and that those who committed the vandalism had been harassing him. Kevin Reily, however, said he did not think Maloney would hurt the teens. "To be honest with you I think the guy is harmless," Reily said.

Let's get this straigh... he's carrying a 125-year-old weapon... and they end up calling his collection of historical guns a "weapons cache"?

They weren't on the street. They were in the man's apartment.

This is lunacy. I think this person needs to see a shrink.

If the 125 year old derringer was a black powder weapon, he may have less trouble. But we are, after all, discussing a 'New Yawk' situation - so reason is not an integral part of the indigenous weltanschaung.

Displaying the sort of ignorance New York Liberals are famous for, officer Piekarski said "We got a lot of guns off the street," totally ignoring the fact that all the guns but one among those they seized were safely stored away.

Maloney -- dressed in military fatigues,

No, its not against the law. No, it doesn't mean he's a nut. Yes, I have my own that I occasionally wear...

But unless you're in the field hunting, doing work around the house, or just cleaning out the the damn stalls, wearing military style clothing while under arms is dangling raw bleeping meat in front of the cops. Come on.

Why yes, these guns were laying in the street, in front of this guys home.

As far as I can tell, from waaaaay out Kalifornia way, those weapons have become animated, learned to operate themselves, and have already graduated target practice school.

(What I say makes as much sense and the bast*** that thinks the guns 'taken off the street' posed a threat all by themselves.)

Fortunately, he's in just the right place! New York has the largest number of psychiatrists, followed by California, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

(Blue states, all!)

Very, very stupid. Never tell the police anything without a lawyer being present. As for wearing military fatigues, that has been common wear among hippies as well as rednecks for the past 40 years. Good grief.

And this guys former boss is really the guy we want to head up Dept. of Homeland Security??
I can see it now: "Mr. President, in order to further secure the homeland, we need Congress to repeal the Second Amendment!"

Frankly I will loose no sleep if the Demonrats do all they can to prevent Kerik from taking that post. And I don't want Rudy to have it either!

He's NOT a bad guy. But, Piekarski, look to your own and measure it.

SUVs kill by your metric, Piekarski. Go sieze every SUV too.

In fact, Piekarski, there are many murderous things out there. Even heavy bookbags. They can be swung at the nape of a unsuspecting women or child to kill!

Go sieze every family with bookbags, Officer Piekarski.

The streets will be empty. But they will be safe.
