CT Republicans are pretty corrupt, shouldn't call themselves Republicans.

Former Waterbury Mayor Phil Giordano comes to mind. I did my internship for the Corporation Counsel's office in Waterbury the summer after ol Phil there was removed from office--during his trial and all.

"You're one of them, I take it. Ve haff vays of makink you tock. Shpeel de beans, bustah. You vill giff us das info vots behint de sceentz, ja?"

Sorry, I don't have any inside info. All I've done is look at the man's record. There are two main career tracks in the NYPD for the ambitious; "boss" and "detective". I may be wrong, but I don't think in over 150 years has there ever been an NYPD commissioner whose previous department rank was 3d grade detective. The guy had a good relationship with Giuliani and made the most of it. I can tell you with certainty that there were others that were better qualified to hold the post that he had on that fateful day.

"Bill Bratton was responsible for all the NYPD initiatives that eventually returned NYC to a sense of normalcy"

FYI, if you're interested, and interesting piece of Bratton:

http://talkleft.com/new_archives/000608.html

Thursday :: October 03, 2002

NY's William Bratton Named Chief of LAPD \\"The outspoken Mr. Bratton, who ran New York's police department for 27 months from 1994 to 1996 until he was forced out by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, promised in interviews with Mayor James K. Hahn and other city leaders that he would cut Los Angeles's rising crime rate and improve morale in the city's dispirited and distrusted police ranks."

Again, hand out the green cards and everybody can have their illegals made right.

That simple. Hand out green cards. There is over a billion people in this world that would like to come into this country. Would you give all of the green cards. How many is enough?

Besides, the first things these illegals did when they entered the country was to break the law. Hardly the kind of people I want in my country.

I agree, sorry it was :-& - strikes my as funny how many pols. have illegal help... maybe all this guest worker stuff has it's roots in a simpler explanation. Rep. wouldn't have to run from skeletons in their closets about illegal aliens in their employ if all the illegals were suddenly *poof* legal. Then all these nom. would go through - small prob. massive solution.

Again tongue in cheek... Thanks

Fine.

If we can't have Kerik I recommend G.W. nominate someone with ties to Halliburton.

no one who has any future political aspirations would take this job. its a thankless position - if everything goes well, no one knows you. if there is a terror attack, you are the scapegoat.

someone like Kerik would have been perfect for this - this would have been the pinnacle of his career, he's not an empty suit paper pusher, he would have just gone in there and kicked some butt and tried to do the best job possible.

Very disappointing news. I felt like he couldv'e done an amazing job with Homeland Securty. His work with the NYPD and Corrections Dept. has completely transformed NYC during the Guiliani administration and turned it into statistically the safest large city in America. Sure he was rough around the edges in many respects. But i have no doubts that a tough as nails black-belt who served New York's streets and prison system during it's worst times (nyc streets mid 80's to early 90's were a legit nightmare) is exactly the type of man needed to run the Dept. of Homeland Security. God only knows what kind of pansy will take the seat now. If theres any justice in the world Zel Miller will get a call for a brand new cabinet position but I dont see that happening.

Maybe the only good thing about a Liberman appointment is we would get a Republican appointment to the Senate in his place.

well, to be honest Bill Bratton was responsible for most of the crime reductions in NYC. But Kerik would have been very good here, and as you say, I sense some empty suit pansy is on his (her) way to this position.
