AESTHETICS OF HATE: R.I.P. DIMEBAG ABBOTT, AND GOOD RIDDANCE -- Time For Conservative Imagination!
ICONOCLAST ^ | by William Grim

Posted on 12/14/2004 8:40:19 AM PST by Apolitical

Part of the hard work of civilization is teaching young to be able to distinguish between the good and the bad in all aspects of life. If we teach our young children to obey the 10 Commandments and to obey the laws of the land, but don't teach them to realize that Johann Sebastian Bach is superior to Dimebag Abbott, we have failed as parents and mentors. If a person has gone through 12 or 13 years of education and has not developed an appreciation for the greatest artistic achievements of mankind, that education has been an utter failure.

While laissez-faire is the correct approach to economics it has no place in the realm of aesthetics or morality. A confidant civilization imposes its morality and aesthetics on it young people. Yes, you heard it right. We impose. The Rousseauian noble savage is a myth. Left unchecked and untutored the savage will never attain nobility......

You know, I wish no harm on anyone, however, how many "kids" were influenced by "Dimebags" cavalier way of life?

Hmm...there are certain politicians in power now, who led a "cavalier" way of life....do you rail against THEM? (Hint...they are creating an Oligarchy right now...probably with your support!)

His avant disregsrd of what is culturally acceptable and LEGAL is evident just by his name. A name in reference soley to the appropriation of narcotics.

Um...he got his name from buying 10 cent bags of picks...there is a reference to drugs, but non-offensive (unless you have a stick up your a$$$)...have any alcohol/beer/wine in your house? Reprobate....

How different Americas' heroes have become, how sad that they have actually become acceptable idols for our children.

Again...I don't see kids saying "I'm gonna be like Dimebag Darrell"...but they could have chosen FAR worse, certain hypocritical politicians/pundits/media whores for example, along with MOST of professional athelets today...gonna give 3 cheers the next time an NBA-hole gets popped?

Every single "Pantera" album carries a parental warning, nice guys, lets have them in our living rooms.

Then DON'T LISTEN...and exercise PRENTAL authority and not allow YOUR kids to have/listen...don't deny ME the ability because you swoon at the sight of a warning label!

So goodbye to dear sweet, generous "dimebag" and his explicit four letter sexually explicit lyrics, this "Inspiration" will be greatly missed.

I can't WAIT to have a shot at YOUR obituary...I can assure you that your pompousness and myopia will NOT be missed!

Imagine living next door to Mozart?

Yeah, for all the pompous FReepers...Mozart wrote a song called "Lich Mir Im Arse"...take a guess what it translates to...shall we start the pogrom against Baroque music now?

good riddance huh? What a lovely sentiment----not. I am no Pantera fan, I dislike heavy metal, but your hero, William Grim, is a condescending dirt bag.

What the joker that wrote this article doesn't realize is metal is in many ways inherently right-wing. If you look at the people in rock and roll that are conservatives, many are metal or at least hard rock:

Sammy Hagar
Alice Cooper
Ted Nugent
Dave Mustaine (recent convert)
Dimebag Darrell, and probably his brother Vinnie Paul
Kid Rock (not metal but influenced by metal)
James Hetfield (anarchist but conservative by his own admission, also an avid hunter)
Yngwie J. Malmsteen at least seems very pro-America
Gene Simmons (liberal but voted for W)
C.C. DeVille
Marilyn Manson
...and all us Metalhead Freepers!

Words never more true in my field, architecture. Sigh.

Yes, the argument transfers. Architecture has been a problem.

"Dimebag Abbott" was good, but he was no Michael Schenker, or John Petrucci. That said, R.I.P. Mr. Abbott, you'll be missed.

I guess folks I am just too old fashioned and maybe it doesn't bother you folks, but I just adore hearing 12 to 13 year old girls and guys walking thru the Mall saying "F" this and "F" that.

And folks like good old dimebag, yes even folks like "Ted," have these kids convinced this is acceptable.

Even you folks here find it acceptable since "dimebag sings about"a lot of the "lyrics" are more "Lost Love" type songs, and many songs deal with the unhealthy consequences of drug abuse..." Now Chad, cut the crap...check out some of these little diddys before you accuse someone of speaking out of turn.....

Mouth For War

Fu*king Hostile

No Good (Attack The Radical)

Live In A Hole

Hellbound

Goddamn Electric

Yesterday Dont Mean Sh*t

Revolution Is My Name

By Demons Be Driven

Good Friends And A Bottle Of Pills

Hard Lines, Sunken Cheeks

Slaughtered

What a delightful and inspirational guy...sheesh..

At 46 years old....I reject these poor excuses for "entertainment" categorically.

I think I'll email him a link to this thread and see if he has the stones to come here himself.

I would dare say if you took a poll of our servicemen in Iraq and Afghanistan and asked for their favorite bands, I would not be shocked if Pantera would be right at the top of the list.

It makes sense that a lot of us metalheads are drawn towards the right wing of politics. Metal rejects vapid pop music and stale aging-hippy rock, both of which tend to embrace liberalism.

Excellent article, excellent illustration of the author's points on this very thread! If you're living in the gutter, everything above is "elitist", isn't it though?!

Oh waaa. Listening to all you poor little dears being offended by this article is making me laugh/puke (still trying to decide). Must be DU visitors day at FR. Are you all bummed out because one of your AD/DC/DimeBag/Scumbag heavy metal heroes got shot? I feel your pain (ha ha ha, good riddance). I know, I bet you feel I'm being "mean spirited" and "divisive" and "insensitive", huh? Get a clue, yo-yos. Bach was far superior to Scumbag/Dimebag (whatever) in every respect. And we as a society do have an obligation to teach our children that there are aesthetic values, and that there is a difference between Bach and Scumbag, the same way that there is a difference between the Mona Lisa and a Lucite encased turd. GET A GRIP PEOPLE!! Am I sorry that another human being got shot? Yes, I'm sorry that he got shot in the same sense that I would be sorry if some lawyer from the ACLU got shot. You people as so focused on the fact that one of you little heavy-metal childhood heroes got killed, that you missed the point of the article; we as society do need to instill some type of aesthetic judgment in our children. (And I got a news flash for you poor poor heavy metal babies: As far as role models go, Scumbag ain't it!)

I prefer living next door to a snotty-liberal cultural elitist who plays Bach's profound compositions and chord schemes 24/7 at full volumn than to live next door to some one who plays any raucous rock band's metal guitar psycho-cacophony for minus one minute.

Afterall, ears are portals to the mind. I'm pretty sure that Hard Rock sandblasts the mind. I'm in NH and listen almost daily to Jay Severin on FM Talk Radio. Except for Jay's choice of playing musical interludes of HARD ROCK NOISE by his favorite Metal Guitarist, he is otherwise astute and articulate with an unswerving conservative/libertarian spirit, and amazingly he has no symptoms of having a sandblasted mind - yet.

Mozart's music is more aestheticly nurturing than *that* of, say, Ozzie Bat Biter.

Forgive, I'm just burning off excess energy from my elation - post-election Reds' elation as opposed to the mordant elite Blues'

(That is, if it isn't authentic acoustic Blues.)

I know...too much "vanity." Sorry...
