Here is the deal. There is competition amongst cities for pro-sports teams. The owners have supply of an item that is in demand. Washington D.C. does not have to buy a stadium in order to get a team. But in that case, there are cities that will buy a stadium to get a team. So there, Washington politicians tell baseball to go to hell, baseball finds a new city that wants them. Problem solved.
But I don't ever want to hear Washingtonians whine about how great a baseball city they would be IF ONLY they hadn't been screwed out of their Senators. Nope, no more of that.

The problem is MLB is a (normally) illegal trust, that has been granted an antitrust exemption by Congress.
