Kerik to Regan: Say Affair Was 'Brother-Sister'
NewsMax ^ | 12/19/04 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 12/19/2004 10:18:55 AM PST by wagglebee

In a lengthy and candid interview with Newsweek, former New York City mayor Rudy Giuliani seemed to acknowledge that the controversy over Bernard Kerik's failed bid to run the Department of Homeland Security has made him anxious about his consulting business, Giuliani Partners, of which Giuliani-Kerik is an offshoot division. Giuliani said repeatedly that Kerik's role in the firm is very limited, representing "less than 5 percent" of its business, Senior Writer Charles Gasparino reports in the December 27 issue of Newsweek (on newsstands Monday, December 20).

"He's not part of Giuliani Partners," the former mayor said.

Giuliani says his firm, which specializes in crisis management and corporate security, hasn't lost any clients because of the controversy, but he acknowledged that there's no way to gauge the effect on efforts to land new business.

Gasparino also reports that people who know Giuliani say he's starting to lose patience with Kerik, particularly since Giuliani is often mentioned as a potential presidential candidate in 2008. These people believe Kerik's days at the firm are numbered, but Giuliani denies it.

Newsweek has also learned that just after Kerik was nominated to head the Department of Homeland Security, editor Judith Regan -- with whom Kerik had an affair -- told one person that she was contacted by a Kerik associate who indicated how Kerik might characterize their relationship when asked about it during a background check.

Kerik, this person says, would describe it as a "brother-sister" relationship, reports Gasparino. Regan took that as code for her to mischaracterize what she has told people was a sexual affair.

Through a spokeswoman at her publishing company, Regan -- who published Kerik's autobiography -- declined to comment.

Gasparino reports that Jess Walter, the writer who worked with Kerik on the autobiography, had complained to officials at Regan Books that there were inconsistencies in some of the material provided by Kerik, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

One example included a letter Kerik received from police officers who found a flag at the World Trade Center a day after the 9/11 attacks.

Walter said he believed Kerik may have hyped a portion of the letter, in particular the line: "You lead and we will follow."

Kerik's attorney, Joseph Tacopina, did not comment, but he had one of the officers who wrote the letter contact Newsweek to say the account in the book was accurate.

"Guiliani screwed this thing up royally and no amount of explaining will change that."

You got that right. And he digs his hole even deeper with:-

'He's not part of Giuliani Partners," the former mayor said. Giuliani says his firm, which specializes in crisis management and corporate security, hasn't lost any clients because of the controversy, but he acknowledged that there's no way to gauge the effect on efforts to land new business.'

Wonder how Pat Ryan and the guys at Aon Corp will interpret that - especially with Spitzer breathing down their necks. It's not so long since they got done telling their clients what a coup they had scored by geting into bed with Guiliani!

Guiliani should never have let this guy come anywhere near a Cabinet post. What the hell was he thinking?

Liberals don't hate all conservatives. They enjoy the company of fence straddling conservatives like John McCain. As long as you don't hold to conservative social beliefs the Left will offer an oily smile and extend a greasy hand of fiendship.

There are more than a few FReepers who are at home with the Left on social issues. I have a label for these types, but conservative isn't one of them.

And I think you're wrong in labelling McCain as a conservative. "Opportunist" is a more fitting description. Apparently, Mr. Lugar, of Indiana also fits that bill, although he is a tad less vocal. And Mr. Hagel, is the cheerleader for the group. You can keep them all, in my opinion.

If Guiliani knew all about this stuff, then he blew it. If he had been lied to as much as everyone else, then why is it his fault?

Yeah, so now Kerik's admitting that he had sex with his sister. Why don't they all just shut the hell up and stop making it worse? It all starts to look like Guilliani's efforts against organized crime while he was U.S. Attorney in N.Y. were just a kind of "hostile takeover" of their business. Mind you, I'm not saying that's the case, but the more these people talk, the worse they make it look.

I don't want to keep them. I'm for pitching them overboard with the all rest of the social liberals in the GOP.

Reminds me of the old joke.

A West Virginia was upset and broke off his engagemnet. When he was asked why he responded that she was a virgin. His friend responded "good call, if she's not good enough for her family, she's not good enough for yours"

LOL! Good one!! :)

NY is one of the few states where it is legal to marry your first cousin. Brother-Sister love is another thing.

But what if you first cousin is your sister?

Well, all he did was cheat on his wife, and that's not enough to impeach a guy...oh, wait, we're not talking about Clinton.

People who were here five years ago yapping about Clinton being slimy are dismissive of Giuliani's similar shortcomings. Giuliani is anti-gun and pro-tax, on top of the fact that he cheated on his wife while in Gracie Mansion and while raising young children.

"Giuliani says his firm, which specializes in crisis management..."

Well, it certainly appears that Rudy has a crisis to manage in his own house. It should prove interesting to see how he "manages" this brushfire before it turns into an inferno that burns his presidential aspiration to a crisp.

20 states.. pretty far from being a "few"

(with 7 other states allowing it in special circumstances, usually as long as one of them is medically unable to reproduce)

Which means it is actually prohibited in 23 states.. not even a majority!

Explain to me how Rudy, who cut taxes repeatedly while Mayor of what is one of the most liberal cities in the country, is a 'tax and tax' Republican?

As a NYC resident with a paycheck I can attest that despite having the highest city income taxes in the nation, Rudy never once made any effort to reduce my income taxes. It's an unfortunate truth, but true nonetheless.

Incest is best, relatively speaking.
