PLANNED PARENTHOOD = ABORTION, INC. The American Life League has issued its annual report on Planned Parenthood, and discovered the following - the number of abortions is up, the amount of money received from the government is up, but donations are down and clinics are closing. Nearly a quarter of a million children were killed at Planned Parenthood clinics in the last year, up 6.1 percent.

The organization earned $104 million from those abortions. Government funding for Planned Parenthood was $265 million, an all-time high, and nearly one-third of its total income of $810 million. Meanwhile, private donations declined for the second time in three years, this time by about 17 percent. The number of clinics declined from 866 to 849, down from a high of 938 clinics in 1995. But here's perhaps the most revealing statistic - Planned Parenthood, which claims to be all about helping women make choices - aborted 138 children for every adoption it referred to an outside agency. As recently as 1997, that ration was 18 abortions for every adoption. Planned Parenthood's influence on our society is clear - its sex education program encourages early sexual involvement, which leads to unwanted pregnancy, which leads to abortion, not adoption.

It's a nice little racket Planned Parenthood has going - which is why this supposed "non-profit" turned a profit for the 18th straight year, by more than $35 million. While we should be encouraged that private donations are down, we must continue to work to defund Planned Parenthood at the governmental level.

Where is the money coming from? What department, under what bill? Do you know?

I can't answer that for sure, but I would imagine that they simply have a good lobby and enough "friends" in Congress to keep the spigot flowing. After all, what is the justification for 50% of the $$$ the federal government spends.

I have stated this previous here at FR, but I'll say it again. NO MONEY SHOULD FLOW FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT TO THE STATES AND CITIES. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD TAKE JUST ENOUGH $$$ IN TAXES TO FUND THOSE THINGS WHICH THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM UNDER THE CONSTITUTION. LET THE STATES KEEP THE $$$ AND FUND NECESSARY PROJECTS WITHOUT THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SKIMMING OFF THE TOP AND RETURNING A PORTION OF THE $$$ WITH STRINGS ATTACHED.
