When I read the Chaplain's report about the attack he mentioned that many people were injured by pellets-- I was surprised that a rocket or mortar was filled with BB's. On the other hand, the roof sure looks like it was hit from the outside. And a burned and bloodied Soviet-style ammo bandolier would sure look like a 'suicide' vest.

I was thinking the same thing. There were mortars/rockets fired ...but it seems this was a well-coordinated attack- and a suicide bomber was part of it.

To find turncoats in the ranks isn't surprising- my son said last year when he was in Mosul the same people that "worked with us during the day would shoot at us the same night"...

At any rate there will be a press conference later today with DoD...maybe they'll have it cleared up by then. They've sealed Mosul- closed the bridges and imposed a curfew- doing door-to-doors etc.

The roof is made of canvas. It's going to sag to the inside no matter what caused the explosion.

They are hiring 'civilitan' cooks instead of using US troops--I think this is foolish. The 'civilians' could be anybody and could put something in the food just like the candidate in Ukraine who had dioxin put in his soup.

Good morning.

I think I read somewhere that we had found some locally modified versions of the 122mm rockets that had less range but more destructive effect. Load them with pellets like those in a claymore and you would get wounds like those described.

I just heard Ollie North say that his sources in Mosul tell him reports of pellet wounds were incorrect.

Like you I think the pictures of the damage indicate a rocket.

I think one of the few women killed in action in Vietnam was killed by a 122 that hit the hospital she was assigned to.

Our guys will have to harden all facilities now.
