It's crazy. I live on Padre Island here in Corpus and tonite we have snow. This is only the sixth time we've had snow on the ground for as long as they've kept records. And the first Christmas/Christmas Eve.

Really fantastic...

Maybe the Global Cooling stuff we were fed in the 1970's was right too!

I was living in the Tampa Bay area of FL on Christmas eve of 1989 when it snowed and sleeted all the way down to south of Ocala. My FIL was driving home from near Pensacola and got stuck in the massive traffic jam on I-75 that stretched from the GA state line down to about Brooksville. Cars and trucks were stranded on the road or slid off in the median every few hundred yards. It took him 15 hours to make the 450 mile drive that normally takes 7-8 hours.

Where I was living it snowed for about 2 hours late Christmas eve, but the ground was too warm for it to stick. Next morning there was a dusting of snow on car tops and shingle roofs but nothing on the ground.

I have lived in several places in FL for most of my life until I moved away in 1996, but I had never seen anything like that down there before that time. It has to be really crazy weather when it snows in FL or south TX.

I'd say it has snowed 2-3 inches here at my house in Northwest Corpus Christi since 7:00 PM and there is snow all the way back to Laredo moving this way and that is some 150 miles away.

I live several miles east of Laredo. It quit snowing here for a while. Now it's snowing again. It looks like we have about 3 inches of snow now.

I went out and took a close look. We've got a mix of snow and ice in Harlingen. It's accumulating lightly in the yard with small drifts building up. Flowerbeds are solid white.

I had the pleasure of throwing my first South Texas snowball tonight. A white Christmas in South Texas is going down as one of the best Christmas gifts ever!

Merry Christmas, FReepers!

Here's some unsolicited trivia....I seem to remember reading somewhere that the armadillo is the only animal other than man that is susceptible to leprosy.

They aren't mentioning Wilacy or Cameron but it's sure snowing and the sidewalks are "crunchy" and slippery.

It's just amazing! I had to go check it out again. With a yardstick this time. We've got accumulations from .5" to 2". I'm guesstimating we've had about 1" of snow and sleet. Walking in it was neat with the crunching of the ice layer with each step. We could have several more hours of this and with temps staying at freezing until after 7am, I think we'll awaken to a blanket of snow. Just awesome!

I'm watching from the garage and did pick a little up but I can't go out in it because I have a bad cold already. I hope it stays til day break so I can get some pictures. Your electricity ok? We were having problems around 8PM but it hasn't been flickering the last couple of hours.

I just dropped by to commiserate with all of you people who commiserate with us during hurricanes!

Hope you do well during the night; what a sight you'll see in the morning!

I'm in the Triangle in North Carolina; we see it some, but nothing like I'm seeing on TV. We get a lot of what we call "bush snow" that just lays on the top of the bushes.

But about once a year we get a good one that's six or so inches if we're lucky.

Nothing prettier than snow on the Christmas lights!

I'm watching a news bulletin. We are under a "winter storm" warning. LOL. I have no idea what that means or what we are supposed to do. I'm used to hurricane , thunderstorm or tornado warnings.

We had some major flickers much earlier this evening but no problems with electric since. It just began snowing here heavier than it has all evening. I think you will get your pictures in the morning. I'm charging my digital camera battery pack right now. This is a once in a lifetime chance for these pics. I've seen snow here before on very rare occasions but nothing like this. I saw it snow here in the mid 1960's just enough to pile up a bit by the north side of buildings. This one has that beat, bigtime!

"winter storm warning" --- Take action, the storm is in or entering the area.

It's there or it's coming!
