Romanian doctors say a 67-year-old woman is seven months pregnant with twin girls after fertility treatment. If the pregnancy comes to full term, it is believed that Adriana Iliescu, an author and academic, will become the oldest recorded mother.

Mrs Iliescu told local television she had always wanted to be a mother but had been unable to conceive naturally.

She says she is optimistic about her future as a mother, claiming her family has a history of longevity.

Last year, a 65-year-old Indian woman gave birth to a boy.

Schoolteacher Satyabhama Mahapatra from Nayagarh in Orissa had been impregnated with an egg from her 26-year-old niece that had been fertilised by her husband.

It was the first child for Ms Mahapatra and her husband who had been married for 50 years.

14 year olds can be real bratty. I wouldn't test it with a 72 year old mother, she's lible to get a broken hip. It would be too tempting for a tempermental PMSing 14 year old. It's something the "granny" is going to regret. She'll be 81 when her twins are 14. Unfathomable. I was 36 when my GRANDMOTHER was 81.

I wonder if Adriana Iliescu is married.
There is no way she was thinking in the best interest of the children when she decided to become pregnant. Having children for selfish reasons is so sad.

She would do better to spend her money on the hundreds of thousands abandoned in Romania's orphanages

I thought it was only the Democrats who tell other people how to spend their money? ;)

I have some concerns with this.

With all the new technology regarding fertility, a 65 year old woman was able to give birth to a baby recently.

When she was discharged from the hospital and went home, her relatives came to visit.

"May we see the new baby?" one asked.

"Not yet," said the mother. "I'll make coffee and we can visit for awhile first."

Thirty minutes had passed, and another relative asked, "May we see the new baby now?"

"No, not yet," said the mother.

After another few minutes had elapsed, they asked again, "May we see the baby now?"

"No, not yet," replied the mother.

Growing very impatient, they asked, "Well, when CAN we see the baby?"

"WHEN HE CRIES!" she told them.

"WHEN HE CRIES??" they demanded. "Why do we have to wait until he CRIES??"

"BECAUSE, I forgot where I put him..."

how can anyone allow such a sick inhumane thing like this to take place this old woman is nothing but a selfish sick old hag she has brought gods judgement upon her whats next i wonder perhaps conducting artificial pregnancies on 100 year old women will be next on the agenda.

it just gets more and more obscene each time when are people going to get a sense of dignity and morality and know where to draw the line

how is she going to be able to live long enough to raise those kids by the time they are both 10 she will probally be dead if she really wanted children that bad why the bloody hell didnt she adopt a few orphans considering the fact that there are tens of thousands of orphans in romania but noooooo she had to be wicked and utterly selfish and bring two innocent babies into the world which are probally going to end up as orphans themselves adding more problems to society real great.

this is absoloutly ridiculous.
