Thanks for confirming what everybody's already thinking.
Its statements like his that have been instumental in passing all these so called "Mommy Laws" which I do not support now or ever, period.
The interlocks were a bad idea that didn't really work. As I said, they were easy to beat. In fact, the 73 Dodge I bought was a dealer demo with about 1500 miles on it as I recall. (I always looked for demos to save a few bucks). Whatever salesmen had the car before me disabled them by simply jumping a connector under the seats. They didn't even consider reconnecting them when I bought the car. (Imagine the Federal case that would be today). Most of their customers back them hated wearing seat belts and really hated the fact that they had to buckle them to even start the car or buckle the passenger side belt if they set a bag of groceries in the seat.
Detroit took a lot of grief for installing the interlocks and discontinued them a few years later. There is no doubt that seat-belt use is far more common today than it was in 1973 when less than 20% of the drivers wore them regularly. The only way to get people to wear them is through education. But some folks will never learn.
Thank you for confirming you position, as well.
Some of them are right here on this (educational) thread. But there is one less of them than there was before! (Look up about 15 posts)
I've read that statistically, the point where you have a 50/50 chance of dying in a head-on accident is when the cars are going 30mph (that's slower than I would have guessed). Of course, that includes a lot of folks without airbags and not wearing seatbelts.
You could have shown a little respect and not make a smarta$$ remark.
But I have a feeling even if he daughter had been seriously injured, you would have said the same thing.
Hope you're all buckled up, because you're starting to go pretty fast!
My nephew had a wreck two weeks ago, had his belts been buckled, he'd burned to death.
That happens, but it's the exception. The scientific consensus is that many more are protected by buckling than harmed by it.
True, of course, but unless you can plan your car crash in advance (*cough*), or have a crystal ball telling you what kind you'll have, only a total idiot would try to "justify" not buckling up his seatbelt because "I *might* be worse off with it on, if I have exactly the right kind of uncommon accident".
The smart person plays the odds and puts on his seatbelt.
(Exception: Statistically, small kids in the back seat are better off without a seatbelt as opposed to *just* lap belts -- but wearing belts with a shoulder strap are still the best option.)
Is somebody holding a gun to your head, forcing you to buckle up?
I appreciate what you are trying to do with this thread. The sad fact of the matter is there are no absolutes in life you can count on. My son was wearing his seatbelt when he was fatally injured in an auto accident. The driver of the car, who was not belted, received minor injuries . . .
My suggestion to you would be to thank God in secret that you still have your daughter, and assign the value where it rightfully belongs.
No, is somebody holding a gun to your head making you ask that????
PS. I am not hesitant on my trigger.
They kept the driver in place so the airbag could do its job.
Without the seat belts, there's a very good chance you'll slide *under* the airbag due to the force of the crash and end up in a ball down by the gas pedal, or off either side and slam into the dashboard (or through the windshield).
I know Whom to thank, and her mother, sister, and I have done so. She always has been His daughter more than mine.
But if He chose to use seatbelts to save her, and if He also cautions us to obey the seatbelt law (Romans 13), am I not bound then to point out in public what He has done and is doing? Hallelujah!
Thank you for your post. My only daughter just walked out of an accident where she hit black ice, hit a deep ditch and flipped over the car 3 times (once, front to back). No injuries except a bruising on her left arm. Was wearing seat belt and the airbags deployed. Needless to say, the car was totalled. Her being alive was MY Christmas present!
We rejoice together!
