The other guy is Dr. Wes McDonald, author of "Russell Kirk and the Age of Ideology" and his wife Alice.

I love Kirk -- "The Conservative Mind", "Roots of American Order", "The Politics of Prudence" and his writings on Burke are part of the Conservative Canon ... did he ever stop writing?!

Kirk died in the early 1994. He was an active writer of fiction and nonfiction right up until his death. Wes was a research assistant to Kirk for about 10 years in the late 70's and early 80's. His book is very interesting in that he dispels a lot of the myths about Kirk that have arisen since his death.

According to Wes, today's conservatism bears little resemblance to that envisioned by Kirk, who espoused limited foreign interventionism, reasonable restrictions on capitalism and preservation of the great institutions of our civilization. Wes doesn't believe Kirk would have been very fond of today's neocons.
