Although I am a very lapsed Catholic, you pretty much sum up what I believe. Although "agnostic" is probably a better term. Also, I might be something of a Deist, depending on what I just read, but officially, I claim publicly to be an athiest on religous issues.

I find I am much more able to engage liberals with that background. They seem to think that all conservatives are bible-thumpers. It is quite satisfying to destroy any straw men right up front. It leaves them quite disarmed.

I don't get that either. They are just dumbfounded when there is a non-Christian conservative. They seem to save up their most vile remarks for people who don't fit their idea of what a conservative should be.

LOL...
To a Deist, a Christian is an Atheist.
That's why Deists consider the Christian/Atheist debate funny. ...

Your right about that re:Liberals think conservatives are bible thumpers. The msm have perpetrated the myth(very effectively)that we're all bible thumpers, and a lot of other things as well!As far as being an agnostic is concerned,it seems to realy shock some libs that conservatives don't all think alike.

I agree. It irritates me when liberals and the media automatically associate conservative positions with a religious foundation. You don't have to be a 'christian evangelical' to believe abortion is wrong, marriage is fine the way it is, and society ought to maintain some basic traditions, values, and standards of decency.

On the other hand, it seems to irritate liberals when conservative positions are put forth and defended by non-religous people with non-religious arguments.
