If you add up the votes Kerry got in the 17 battleground states (AZ AR CO FL IA ME MI MN MO NV NH NM OH OR PA WA WV & WI), Kerry got 22,977,886 votes (or 49.4% excluding 3rd party candidates). In the same 17 battleground states, Bush got 23,445,587 votes (or 50.6% excluding 3rd party candidates).
