You're fired.

That catchphrase has been reverberating around the sports universe since the 30-year-old owner of the Nashville Rhythm dropped the two-word bomb on her stunned coach courtside in the third quarter of a home game on Saturday night.

The victim was 23-year-old Ashley McElhiney, coach of the minor league American Basketball Association club and the first woman to coach a professional men's basketball team.

Rhythm co-owner and CEO Sally Anthony, left, yells at Coach Ashley McElhiney during the third quarter of last night's game. Anthony, who was later restrained by security guards and taken off the floor, fired McElhiney after the team's 110-109 win over Kansas City.

The "victim" looks more like 43 than 23. Editing error? What kind of league is this, anyway? Sort of a faux CBA?

ESPN has story update. It says the owner was taken to the hospital because she tried to "hurt herself."

One more article below, coach is 18-7 this year. Sounds to me like the co-owner is a little wierd? Article is about apology from the National Rhythms. The coach may not be fired!

Hmmm....more to this I bet, unrequited love from owner to coach perhaps?

Just how DOES a 23 year-old female get to coach a semi-pro men's team?

"My sister-in-law(the owner) is in her apartment right now, and she has taken some pills and mixed it with alcohol and taken scissors and cut up her arms," said the caller, who identified herself as Susan.

"Paramedics were dispatched to Nashville Rhythm co-owner Sally Anthony's apartment Sunday morning after a caller to 911 reported a possible drug overdose, according to a tape obtained by The Tennessean.

The call came in the early-morning hours after Anthony walked onto the basketball court during Nashville's game at Lipscomb University and confronted Coach Ashley McElhiney.

The 911 caller identified herself as Anthony's sister-in-law and gave only her first name, Susan.

''My sister-in-law is in her apartment right now and she has taken some pills and mixed them with alcohol and she has taken scissors and cut up her arms,'' the caller said."...

The owner looks like a victim of too much money and too little brains.

Now we know the answer to the question: "What would happen if Paris Hilton owned a professional sports franchise?" ;)

This is a very bizarre story. Neither Steinbrenner, or Ted Turner(who managed a Braves game) ever fired a coach during the game. I think the closest comparison would be the worst current owner in sports, Dan Snyder, who fired Norv Turner right after a game. But the absolute worst was former Saints owner John Meacom(who fired six coaches in his 18 year reign of error) who fired a coach after an exhibition loss.
