I'm a wee bit partial to trackballs operated with the thumb (specifically, Logitech Trackman Wheel). More precise control for stuff like Doom3 :-)

I've used a trackball before, aside from having to clean the dead skin, hair, and diry out of the thing, I ended up with carpal tunnel syndrome. Optical mice are the way to go.
