Fighting Terrorism with Empathy: a Model for Peace (College Forum)(to understand Bin Laden)
WSJ Opinion Journal/Augsburg College Forum Announcements ^ | Feb. 4, 2005 | JAMES TARANTO

Posted on 02/06/2005 12:06:52 AM PST by FairOpinion

We'd never heard of Augsburg College, which turns out to be a Lutheran institution in Minneapolis, until we got wind that it plans a "Nobel Peace Prize Forum" next Friday and Saturday. On the program for Saturday is the following seminar (at bottom of page):

Fighting Terrorism with Empathy: a Model for Peace (SEE ACTUAL TEXT OF THE COLLEGE ANNOUNCEMENT BELOW)

Notice that these idiots have "empathy" only for mass murderers, never for their victims. Anyway, who is this Amy Nell character who blames America for terrorism, and what are her academic credentials? There are several institutes of higher education called Concordia, including one in Montreal that is known for various anti-Semitic outrages, but Nell seems to be from the one in Moorhead, Minn., where she is--we kid you not--a photographer for the student newspaper.

We're of two minds about nonsense like this. On the one hand, the whole thing is silly and inconsequential. If America can survive "Fahrenheit 9/11," it can withstand the blatherings of Amy Nell. Indeed, one of the great benefits of free speech is that the very exposure of such flapdoodle discredits it--and, if you have a dark sense of humor like we do, often in quite entertaining ways.

On the other hand, higher education is at least arguably a serious and important institution, and inasmuch as a college degree is a necessary credential for many jobs, it is also a powerful institution. In some ways society would be better off if colleges and universities were run by serious people.

Augsburg College Nobel Peace Prize Forums -- Session SS31: Fighting Terrorism with Empathy: a Model for Peace

"The word terrorism strikes a deep nerve among Americans today--having sparked an entire nation to the defense of its country and the subjugation of those who stand in opposition. One of these men who stand in opposition is the man who planned the September 11 attacks. In November 2004, Osama Bin Laden released a tape giving his recipe for a healthy nation. This seminar would dissect his message and use audience participation in doing so. Discussion points would include counterterrorism methods, the possibility of peace, empathy etc. The aim of this seminar would be to help understand the position of Osama Bin Laden as presented in the video and explore in what ways the origins of terrorism are to be found, not in some foreign citizen, but in the actions we take out of fear, hate and retribution. "

This leaves me speechless. I wonder if Ward Churchill will present at this forum. :(

Ya gotta wonder; what do we have to do to these jackasses to get them to lewinski us like they do the enemies of this country?

And we are wondering why some of our college kids are all screwed up.

This is what they are being thought: how to "understand and emphatize" with Bin Laden.

I wonder if Ward Churchill will present at this forum.

Perhaps he is more representative than we thought.

Minnesota, that explains it. Garrison Keller will probably preside.

Probably an organ of the ELCA, Lutherans out of control. When they're not trying to duck blame for supporting the gay agenda, they're sponsoring anti-Israel policies, or whatever the lefty flavor of the month is.

Empathy without clear judgement can be dangerous.

Hey! I've got an idea! Let's waste the sucker and then empathize by channeling his departed soul.

(Hillary's good at that, she channeled Eleanor Roosevelt, this will keep her busy for a while.)

I just saw another article about some even more inflammatory statements by Ward Churchill. He should be tried for treason for those: inciting violence against the US.

Read it and weep:

More Radical Comments by Prof Weighed (Ward Churchill)
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1336966/posts

It's amazing that the more we look at Ward Churchill, the more outrageous, treasonous statements we hear from Churchill," Owens said. "Churchill has clearly called for violence against the state, and no country is required to subsidize its own destruction. That's what we're doing with Ward Churchill."

In the question-and-answer interview, Churchill is asked what should happen to America. "I want the state gone: Transform the situation to U.S. out of North America. U.S. off the planet. Out of existence altogether."

Another question: What are the solutions to U.S. misdeeds? Churchill answers in the interview: "One of the things I've suggested is that it may be that more 9/11's are necessary."

If only these people had been around in the 1930's.

Hitler would have played nice and not killed tens of millions.

If only...

What complete fools.

These people are not "just fools" they are dangerous fools, because they are advocating surrendering to the terrorists, instead of eradicating them.

"In November 2004, Osama Bin Laden released a tape giving his recipe for a healthy nation."

Anyone who thinks Bin Laden is describing a "healthy nation" is propagandizing for the enemy. "You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists".

Martin Luther is probably spinning in heaven over all of this humanistic double speak.

We need to look at crap like this in historical perspective. Many college students that get away from home for the first time become full of themselves. Even though daddy's footing the bills just the fact that their living on their own makes them feel like big people. As they encounter the liberal prof they think of themselves as major thinkers. 99.9% of this thinking disappears a few years later when reality hits them in the face and they find out how life really works. The 1/10 of 1% end up like Ward Churchill and Michael Moore.

Maybe Osama died and now he's possessed Sen Kennedy. Sure sounds like it.... and maybe he moonlights by possessing Pelosi.

Those two sure sound like Osama when they open their mouths about Evil America...

As well it should

and the subjugation of those who stand in opposition.

"subjugation of those who stand in opposition"
Translation: Some people say hurtful things about us and make fun of us.

The sad thing is these moral midgets really believe they are being subjugated.
