Remarks of Homeland Security Committee Chairman Cox During the REAL ID Act News Conference

where a government official (finally) states for the record

"In 2004, border patrol agents arrested over 650 suspected terrorists from countries of national security interest trying to cross the southern border, and they expect the number will rise this year."

"The last time I was in Miami I walked into a store where nobody spoke English. This was a major convenience store chain and the three employees couldn't answer me in English. I'd be willing to bet that they're not all citizens."

Well, it depends on what part of Miami you were in. Were they speaking Spanish? Were you in a Cuban expatriate neighborhood.

I went into a convenience store in St. Paul the other day to buy a pack of cigarettes. Nobody there spoke English either. They were all Hmong. I was in a Hmong neighborhood. They were all legals.

So, I said "Hello" in Hmong, and pointed to what I wanted. I paid my money and left.

Perhaps you had a similar situation.

This isn't a new story, I heard about this days ago.
In regards to the border Condi has stated:
"We're doing all we can"

W. just promised 600 million more for the tsunamiwavers but we cannot "afford" border agents? Mkay...

I just don't understand his agenda any longer, what is the driving force for all this nonsense?

Some say it has to do with FTAA and an EU style of governance in the Western Hemisphere. Whether that's true or not leaving those borders wide open just doesn't make sense to me either.

His agenda(as well as many others including Clinton) is globalism. The FTAA is a big step towards that aim. Illegals represent a new voter base, cheap labor etc. BOTH parties will do nothing about this problem as you can all see with your own eyes. Hitlery will probably win in 08' by coming out strong on borders(of course she is full of BS but nonetheless she could easily win).

I think you're on to something. Sending them back to try again the way we do is cruel for one thing, but mostly it does nothing to shut off the flow. We have to physically close that border. Then we can throw them back.

Poor people who are looking for jobs or hardcore terrorists looking to do serious damage? <<<<

Illegal Intruders (ie Poor People looking for jobs) do as much serious damage to this country as any terrorists does. IMO

Now that is a good idea. There are a few thousand troops in Germany that need something to do. How about we deploy them along the borders? You either turn around or we light you up with the .50 cals.... I mean we shoot your clothing and backpacks with the .50's because we aren't allowed to use the big guns on people.

Actually, yes, we need to pull troops out of Europe. But, no, we don't put them in a full combat role on the border. Their job is Humint, Sigint, Interrogation, Engineering, UAV piloting & monitoring, Processing of Detainees, Equipment Maintenance, etc. You won't believe how much downtime our BP experiences with every apprehension they make, how many of their vehicles are out of commission at any one time, and the fact that there is no real barrier on most of the border to slow the intruders down or funnel them to one place or another. Combine that with the fact that we're doing no intelligence operations designed to predict when large groups will cross, who is aiding the groups in crossing, etc. and you see the problem that could be solved by putting troops there. The sheer fact of troops on the border would make most potential border intruders think twice about crossing. The BP Agents would still be on the front lines but their time would be freed up with the aid of the military. It would also allow DHS/ICE to put more BP Agents in the interior to start enforcing the law there. We're not talking massive numbers of troops, we're not talking about free fire zones and land mines.

Just like Blair of the UK and Howard in Australia, two liberals who are correctly reading the public mood and taking advantage of it.

guys, guys- wake up! We are NOT closing the border, its just not happening. As much as I wish we would the powers that be could care less what the American people want(see prop 200 for example) and W. has stated plainly he would NOT close the border nor put troops on the border. It just isn't happening. We have terrorists streaming in and still our government could care less yet our homeland defence is supposedly protecting us. Sure. On the one hand you have insane diverity loving libs and the other is supposed conservatives who like the cheap labor. We don't seem to be able to win this one.

So, I said "Hello" in Hmong, and pointed to what I wanted. I paid my money and left. <<

But should we have to know Hmong to purchase something in our own country?

Looks like Americans will all have to learn approximately 200 languages if we want to travel within the states.

BTW, nice that you respected the Hmong enough to learn at least a bit of their language, wouldn't it be nice if immigrants returned the darn favor?!

Exactly.

But Bush has done it, which means it must be OK.

What a jerk.
