As I said, it's a must see.
Thanks for the ping.
"The Tuskegee story is an important civil rights story of Americans who happen to be black, in service to their country, their family, and to their friends -- in that order." ---Col. Charles E. McGee, National President of the Tuskegee Airmen
Yep bruin, you heard correctly, the 332nd in fact, was the ONLY USAAF squadron that didn't lose a single bomber under its escort! Amazing, truly amazing! And the "brass" said they couldn't fly, let alone lead men...I love it when dogmatic individuals are proven wrong!
BTW bruin, I once read that a bomber squadron that had initially "balked" at the thought of being excorted by "colored" pilots, gained so much respect for the "Red Tails" (the empennage of the 332nd's P-47's and P-51's were painted read), that during one pre-flight briefing in which they found out the 332nd would not be excorting them, nearly committed mutiny. They insisted that the "Red Tails" be their excorts...the "brass" acquiesced and had the 332nd fly the mission. Now that's respect!
uh, that's supposed to be RED...not READ!
Thanks!
