Former President Clinton Sees More Diplomacy in Bush's Second Term Because of 'drain on Military' JIM ARMSTRONG Associated Press The Associated Press

TOKYO (AP) - Former President Clinton said Saturday he expects diplomacy to play a larger role in President Bush's second term in office because of "the drain on our military."

Speaking at an international forum in Japan, Clinton said Bush's second-term appointment of Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state marked a new beginning for the administration.

"I think by sending Condoleezza Rice to the State Department, (the president) was saying diplomacy will be more important in his second term," Clinton said. "The drain on our military has made this administration more interested in diplomacy."

Clinton also was in Tokyo to promote a Japanese-language edition of his best-selling memoir "My Life."

Listing a series of trouble spots from Iran to North Korea, Clinton said the need for diplomacy is greater than ever.

"If you look at the stress on our military, I think most people in the Bush administration would be thrilled if diplomacy works with Iran," he said.

The United States has accused Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons - a claim denied by Tehran. Bush said rumors that Washington planned military action against Iran were "simply ridiculous," but he quickly added that "all options are on the table" when it comes to dealing with Iran's nuclear threat.

Would there be any "Drain on the military" had the Clintonistas not gutted the military in search of a
purposed Peace dividend? Put another way why trust anything said by anImpeached -"Unusually good Liar"
and draft dodger who loathed the military in both word and deed.

"The real reason is that we don't mess around"

You hit it. After eight years of clinton's messing around and depleting our military the US no longer carried much diplomatic clout.
Now that President Bush has established that "We don't mess around" we will see much more willingness on the part of other countries to actually seek out diplomatic solutions (as we have seen with Libya).
I see clinton's statement as an attempt on his part to weaken President Bush's diplomatic efforts. He is telling the world that our military is now depleted, and by implication they no longer have to take us serious.

Rush was right when he said these 2 will never go away. Bill and the beast that is. Unless she is caught in a cyclone and ends up under a house.

Didn't Clinton also strip the military of multiple divisions, and run off a lot of people who were personally disgusted with him, leaving us in a manpower crunch?

Yes he did among other things! The POS has some nerve talking about "drains on the military"!

"If you look at the stress on our military, I think most people in the Bush administration would be thrilled if diplomacy works with Iran," clinton said.
clinton makes it sound as if President Bush is down for the count, and is sending a clear message to Iran that it should deal with us from a position of strength. clinton is not on our side.

Well, Clinton certainly is an expert on draining a military. If not for the extraoridary efforts and foresight of men like Tommy Franks who had to deal with Clintons wholesale gutting of our armed forces, we would be in a world of hurt right now.

I think it's safe to say that no president in our history did as much damage to our security as this fool, and he's still at it. Grrrr.

""The drain on our military has made this administration more interested in diplomacy."

What Clinton just accidentally fails to mention is that the REASON there is a "drain on the military", is the HE was responsible for drastically downsizing the numbers of servicemen in order to get more cash for his socialist programs. I think the number dropped was around 300K men.

An female Air Force Captain I know told me that (then) President Clinton came on to her in an elevator. She was pretty, and very believable.

Clinton should know about abusing the military.

"The drain on our military has made this administration more interested in diplomacy."

Use of military might to force change is a form of diplomacy to meet a national objective, not simply an adjunct to the Secretary of State's agenda. Being a draft dodging cowardly SOB who disdains anyone in uniform, Clinton has never understood that and probably never will.

Bubba should not be talking down our military. What drain?

Even if it was true, why would an ex-President telegraph such a thought to our adversaries overseas?

Because Bubba still is, as when he was President, a traitor to his country.

PaPa Bush should give him what-for at the next Tsunami lovefest.

It is so hard for this crackpot Clinton to keep his nose out of the business of our country. He had his day and screwed up and sold most of American secrets to our enemy's. Only he can tell us why.
