Should the U.N. be lord of the oceans?
WorldNetDaily ^ | 2/28/2005 | Patrick J. Buchanan

"Sovereignty. The issue is huge. The mere mention of Kofi Annan in the U.N. caused the crowd to go into a veritable fit. The coalition wants America strong and wants the American flag flying overseas, not the pale blue of the U.N."

So George W. Bush confided to friend Doug Wead before he declared his candidacy. And, twice, President Bush has acted to defend U.S. sovereignty gainst the encroachments of global government.

He rejected both the International Criminal Court, which would have ceded power to prosecute U.S. soldiers, and a Kyoto Treaty that would have subjected our economy to the dictates of a global EPA.

Which makes astonishing Bush's apparent support for a Law Of the Sea Treaty that Ronald Reagan rejected as a great leap forward into global socialism. By 19 to 0, the Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved LOST. Unless 34 senators can be rallied to reject this historic power grab, it will go into effect.

Norm Coleman hates the United Nations. How the hell did they get him to go along with it?

Maybe they thought they were voting to stop Kerry from telling yet another Viet-Nam story?

My senators and the White House have been messaged. This is crap.

I did the same, as should all freepers. I am also emailing this article to everyone on my list and asking that they all protest, as well. Digger may be right. I am really starting to be concerned with the state of our government and whether we still have the power to return it to what it is meant to be.

I paraphrase Neopolian.

How many carrier battle groups does the UN have? (How many divisions does the Pope have?)

No. I can hardly believe the idiocy of the Congress passing such a thing as the LOST. I know work was being done on the LOST as early as the 70s under that moron Carter.

Folks, I would think your own Republican reps + the traitorous "moderate" Lugar would be some of the places to start contacting.

I'm about to look up the members of Lugar's committee, and I'll pass them along momentarily.

I can't think of many Dems who might be helpful aside from Gene what's-his-name down south, and possibly (believe it or not) Byrd of W. Virginia.

Old-time conservatives are the answer here.

If we do not intend to pay tribute, why are we going to sign on?

If the president were to shit on your head I'm sure you'd find a way to shrug it off (no pun intended).

Great Googly Moogly: we CANNOT allow our Senators to vote this treaty in. Anyone who wants to know what I found out can go to my former posting on this and see step by step what the actual UN website says about what's expected of signatories to this POS treaty. Just for starters, think the Oil For Food Program only completely in charge of the world's OCEANS (in every manner you can conceive).

Now add the UN telling us what we can do (mineral rights, drilling, extractions - after we request permission and then pay a fee to them for a permit for our private companies to do anything) and then on top of it, do only as much and where the UN tells us to, and then in the end, pay the UN a portion of any profits to be redistributed to "other nations"...

Add to that rules the US Navy and military has to follow on how we use the oceans.

Don't forget the UN "Seabed Authority" gets to force 'advanced nations' to share their technology with other nations that don't have their own technology....

PLEASE send your STRONG opposition to your Senators here at the Liberty Committee site where you can read what scholars have said about it. You can also find your senator's offices at senate.gov.

PLEASE DON'T let them get away with this. Reagan threw the treaty in the wastebasket, where it belongs.

The Foreign Relations Committee has said that there have been changes made that make it "OKAY". If you believe that.....

What's happening is that the New World Order is taking control behind the scenes, one little slice at a time.

The UN has been pushing this for some time as a revenue generating mechanism. Once it no longer needs to rely on dues to sustain itself, the beast can exert its own form of governance

*Excerpted from the UN Millennium Forum Declaration *

The Forum urges:
Governments:

3. To move towards creation of alternative revenue sources for the United Nations. The United Nations should set up expert groups and begin the necessary intergovernmental negotiations towards establishing alternative revenue sources, which could include fees for the commercial use of the oceans, fees for airplane use of the skies, fees for use of the electromagnetic spectrum, fees on foreign exchange transactions (i.e., the Tobin Tax) and a tax on the carbon content of fuels.

A couple of factoids about LOST:

A) The LOST provides TAXING AUTHORITY to the UN for the first time.

B) LOST not only gives control of the surface of the oceans, it gives control of the seabed and ALL THE AIRSPACE ABOVE IT!

C) The Reagan administration killed this socialist piece of garbage initially in 1982, under Jeane Kirkpatrick.

D) LOST is inexplicably but officially supported currently by the U.S. Navy and the Bush Administration.

E) Probably the foremost opponent currently for LOST is Senator James Inhofe. He attended the press conference at CPAC where a number of conservative leaders gathered to denounce it.

F) LOST has an openended feature that provides the UN panel overseeing it the power to make endless changes to its provisions.

Unthinkable!

It is imperative that every conservative expend maximum effort to make it clear to the administration and all of our Senators that a vote for LOST is unforgivable.

The UN is not sovereign. End of story.

Assuming we continue on our present course, your "end of story" will be the U.N. (or something like it) as the ONLY "sovereignty".
