The Internal Revenue Service unveiled its annual listing of tax scams Monday that it labeled the "Dirty Dozen."

The 2004 list includes several new tricks that either manipulate laws governing charitable groups, abuse credit counseling services, or rely on refuted arguments to claim tax exemptions, according to the IRS.

"The Dirty Dozen is a reminder that tax scams can take many forms," said Mark W. Everson, IRS commissioner. "Don't be fooled by false promises peddled by scam artists. They'll take your money and leave you with a hefty tax bill."

Is there any difference in how fast savings may grow under the nrst - making it faster to save for a home?====>YES!

Yes because investments/savings will grow tax free.

Is there any difference in how easy it is to qualify for a mortgage? ======> YES!

Yes because of a 25% decline in long term interest rates. It will be a whole lot easier to qualify for a mortgage with lower rates... makes a big difference.

Of course you could argue that this is all lies. You could accompany your claim with another argument that the experts who say that these things are true are all idiots... that's what you usually do.

Oh yeah... it'll be easier to PAY the mortgage too - because there will be no payroll tax withheld, nor will any Fed income tax be withheld... your paycheck will be your whole paycheck with no federal deductions...and there's no tax day in April to worry about a tax bill!

They, like virtually everything else in your plan, aren't exactly proven facts either.

For example, how would imposing a 30% tax on your rent make it easier to save for buying a house?

That's right, EVERYDAY would be tax day.

Who's renting? We're talking about buying.

The sales tax will replace existing taxes and tax costs - it is not an additional tax. The price of the home won't change, yet you'd have your whole paycheck with no federal deductions with which to save and pay for your home.

Under the current federal income tax system, as well as under the FairTax, consumption purchases must be made from after-tax dollars.

Yes Louie that is true as far as it goes but what you fail to realize is that under the income tax EVERY dollar you earn is taxed but, as the statement above acurately says, ONLY what you CONSUME is taxed under the Fairtax!

A HUGE difference if you ask me!

That's right, EVERYDAY would be tax day.

Every time you buy a taxable product or service, you'd be reminded of the cost of government. Yep.

I could add my 2 cents, but that would be like kicking you while you were down.

Have you got enough new information to form a new opinion?

Most people are renters before they're buyers...I should have known you wouldn't be able to grasp that simple concept.

EVERY dollar you earn is taxed

No they aren't. If you're paying on 100% of your earnings you're the fool.

but, as the statement above acurately says, ONLY what you CONSUME is taxed under the Fairtax!

On the other hand if you were to spend all of your income (like many people do) to live, you would be paying on 100% of your income ...If the money used to consume doesn't come from income, where does it come from?

I disagree. Not that it has anything to do with buying.

Besides, rent payments will be about the same as they are now. The nrst replaces existing taxes and tax costs... it's not in addition to today's prices...

And it will be easier to pay rent and have some left over to save for a house, because folks will be getting their whole paychecks with no federal deductions - no payroll tax, no federal tax withheld. So they'll have more money with which to pay rent OR save for a home.

Along those lines, savings will grow faster because savings are tax free under nrst HR 25.

Not everyone is a tax cheat, lewis. Call him a "fool" if you like, but he won't be going to jail.

I have to ask...do you also get excited when you fill out your tax forms and you find out that the government is going to "give" you a refund?

Who does not pay Social security and medicare taxes of $#1 of their earnings Lewis?

Is every $ you earn subject to the income tax Lewis?

Under the Fairtax you only pay tax IF you purchase a NEW good or service Lewis and THEN only if you spend above the poverty level for those things!

But YOU already knew that didn't you Lewis?

I have NO doubt as to just who is the fool here Lewis and I doubt that most others do either.
