First, my bona fides: mid-grade officer in the military, 19 years of active and reserve service, graduate of one of the services' war college command and staff programs, master's in national security studies, author of peer-reviewed articles on national security issues, veteran of both Iraq wars, Bosnia and Kosovo, and not generally known by peers to overreact.

That being said, the reliance by the USSC on foreign jurisprudence, unratified treaties and "public consensus" to interpret the foundational document of our Republic makes me uneasy. I conducted an informal poll of my fellow officers through the day on a service-related web site, and although the sample was self-selecting, about 60% of respondents indicated that this trend is either somewhat or strongly undermining the Constitution. The other 40% thought it had no effect. None believed it was strengthening our system of government. Obviously I'm not the only one in uniform that is paying close attention to what is going on and is disturbed by these developments.

For those of you that do not know, in the first clause of his oath of office an officer swears to "...support and defend the Constitution of the United States, against all enemies, foreign and domestic...." Do not get me wrong, the military is not contemplating marching on the District of Columbia; but we are watching more closely than most think, and we are reminded that not all threats are external.

You, as the Citizens of our great Republic have the first move to ensure this problem is corrected. The legal process must run its course . Congress should be the focus of your efforts, because they are sensitive to public opinion, and they can do something about it. Impeaching a Justice or two, even with an acquittal, would send a powerful message to the current bench and aspirants.

Start there, and we'll keep watching. You can count on it....

God bless you and thank you for serving our country. (not international countries)

All threats are not external. AMEN.
