This sounds like the exise tax that we have here. The monies recieved go toward road upkeep.
"You don't pay your property taxes & they take your home....even if the home is fully paid for...so we have no property rights. Sad, but true. I use this example all the time with friends who ask why I am not a homeowner like them...."
What you said is true. I feel very bad for older people who worked hard all of their lives to own their home, to see property taxes double because their homes all doubled in value in just two years. Most older people don't want to sell to make a profit and move, they want to relax, that is what retirement is supposed to be for.
Hope your "Car Taxes" are paid up!! I just hope our Dem. Gov. and Rino's don't read about this!!
I pay enough taxes as-is.
I heard that the actual name of the CA IRS is the "State Board of Equalization"? True? If so, that is truth in advertising!
yes - here in GA we renew our tags every year, and must pay a tax to do so based on the blue-book value of the vehicle.
just paid this tax last week on my '92 Mazda B2200... something like $40.00.
faiure to pay the tax = failure to renew the tag = no current sticker on the plate = loss of the vehicle (possible) and hefty fine (definite) if pulled over on public roads for any reason.
It is true that we have a State Board of Equalization, but the state revenue arm is the Franchise Tax Board.
Okay, so just what does an equalization board do?
They set tax rates on businesses, mostly. The personal tax rates are a little too political and that gets monkeyed with by the legislature (which is majority Dem in both houses).
I don't believe in this car tax in Virginia or anywhere else on planet earth. End the car tax in Virginia, raise the sale tax to 6% and reduce Government spending.
Tax on my home in Virginia is up 41% over last year. What till you see your 2005 increased property tax USA property owners!
These taxes are crazy.
