Thanks for that site!
Give me a break. Reread my last posts. You win. I'm tired of trying to tell you that I basically do not like the subject matter, will not let my grandsons read it, and will not recommend it. Other than that, you and I disagree on just about everything. Except the definitions. They stand.
I've read BOTH sets; Lord of the Rings AND Harry Potter! We've read them aloud to our kids, and they've read them on their own at least twice each for LOTR, and three times for HP!
When the last book was released, we'd ordered it from Books a Million. We later realized that the release date was a Saturday, and UPS doesn't usually deliver on Sat. I'd only ordered one, but in the meantime, our youngest son had started reading the books and really enjoying them. So early on Sat. we went to Tarzhay and bought the book, our daughter hoping to get a head start on reading it before her brother came home from a camping trip on Sunday. To our surprise, a UPS truck showed up at our house at noon on Sat. with the book! I asked him how it was that it was a Sat. Delivery, and he said that for Express Deliveries, UPS will come on Sat.!
This year, the books are coming from England, and a friend of mine told me that some folks she knows had ordered theirs from England the last time and it actually arrived a couple of days before the release date here! I just hope I get it on that Saturday!
Now that's odd. I have to admit I've never
been able to get into Tolkein, and I've tried over
the decades many times. I recall many of my students
carried some volume of the Rings around with them
for study hall reading. I've tried to watch
the movies, but always give up because the plot just
seems repeatedly to be one group or another chasing
another group.
I'm not sure exactly what I find so engaging about
Harry and his friends/enemies. As a retired English
Lit./World Lit. instructor, I should at least pin
down the reasons for admiring Rawling's style as
well as her characters. That would be the least
I'd expect my students to do! <>g<>
Maybe for this old Muggle, it's just a question
of mentally revisiting my youth.
The day it is officially released, you can purchase
a copy at the Jewel Food Store! <>g<>
I'm a tin foil guy,
and having two "best sellers"
apparently caught
ripping off small fry --
Rowling/Stouffer - Brown/Perdue --
brings too much baggage
to the pop stories
for me to get into them.
Silly, but that's life.
lol.
~~~"Volume four, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is about Voldemort's elaborate plan to ensnare Harry through the services of Pettigrew, to take some of the boy's blood and make a potion that will restore the Dark Lord to his former powers."~~~
Like George's jedi, it's always "in the blood."
Puke.
Hey, it's just good to see kids reading again... < /s>
Could you put me on the list? Thanks in advance.
You're added!
I would like to be on the list as well if it isn't too much trouble.
Tempted to make some predictions here but that would require revealing story and I won't be the one to spoil it for others.
BA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
All I can say is Oh, My!
Mine is coming by mail. I pre-ordered it, but mail takes 10-14 days to get to me. I should have it in about a week and I can hardly wait.
In the meantime, I'm having to dodge "spoilers." FReepers have been good about putting up "Spoiler Alerts," so I'm still in the dark. ;-)
