Midnight Ride of Jonathan Luna The brutal murder of a Baltimore Federal Prosecutor
Yardbird Books ^ | 2004 | William Keisling

EXCERPT :

The job of U.S. attorney is a political appointment. The top man in any U.S. attorney's office comes and goes. The real continuity in the office rests in the hands of scores of often anonymous assistant U.S. attorneys working there. DiBiagio had a foot planted in both worlds. Before his appointment as U.S. attorney by the Bush administration, DiBiagio worked in the Maryland office as an assistant U.S. attorney from 1991 to 2000. So he was a longtime internal operative. He's a graduate of Dickinson College, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and the University of Richmond, where he earned his law degree. From the earliest days since his elevation as U.S. Attorney in 2001, Republican DiBiagio emphasized prosecution of cases involving public corruption and white-collar crime. In a state historically dominated by Democrats, that means prosecuting Democrats. Early on, U.S. Attorney DiBiagio found himself at odds with the Baltimore office of the FBI, notably former Agent-in-Charge Gary Bald, who soon left to oversee FBI counterterrorism efforts. In 2002 DiBiagio wrote a memo scolding the Baltimore FBI field office for failing to investigate white-collar crime. Before long, DiBiagio launched a probe of the Democratically controlled Baltimore city council. He subpoenaed the financial records of every council member. In his sights, everyone understood, was Democratic Mayor Martin O'Malley. O'Malley was seen as Gov. Ehrlich's chief threat and rival. U.S. Attorney DiBiagio would soon reveal a penchant for writing embarrassingly ill-conceived and revealing letters, memos and e-mails, many of which were leaked to the press.

I thought they had decided this was a suicide ,,outlandish to think he stabbed himself like 50 times and then got in a ditch to die. But I think I read that.

I haven't been following the case, but do know there was $36K or $37K in cash as evidence in the federal court proceeding that turned up missing.

The fact that it turned up missing inside the federal courthouse in Baltimore, MD. just adds more mystery to the murder.

I would think that a federal courthouse would have maximum security and surveilance cameras 24/7 inside and out.

Supposedly, the FBI questioned the Federal Judge on the case, Andre Davis twice about this missing money.

Still the FBI have come up with nothing.

Things like that happened a lot during the clinton administration.

There was an individual that shot themselves in the wrong side tof the head, wrapped themself in a carpet, then drove himself to Ft. Marcy Park where he exited his vehicle, unrapped himself and walked over t another place and laid down.

Then there was the police officer in OK City who shot himself in his car and I believe that he slashed his wrists also but I am going from memory and can't be sure of that. He then exited his vehicle, locked the doors, and walked some distance, crawled under a barbwire fence and laid down.

I suppose that the point is that suicides happen under strange circumstances.

If bill clinton had stayed in power long enough, the average age would dropped to 45.

Thanks D, this stuff never fails to amaze me.
And to think some say NJ's [much] more corrupt?

How long can the republic continue under these circumstances is what I ask in all sincerity.

joanie are you aware of what's contained, here?
Didn't the Luna incident strike close to *home*?

Follow the hyper-link if you've not heard a follow-up to that case & have at it.

As usual, wasn't really "a mystery".

...after all.

My guess (pure speculation)is more than likely a combination of both.

I haven't read the book, but plan on purchasing and reading
it in the next couple of weeks.

A little bit off the subject, check out this recent article
from City Paper, Baltimore about the MD. AG Joseph Curran Jr.'s close personal acquaintances and political cronies, Mark and Gilbert Sapperstein.

In particular the $9,650 donation Sapperstein's made to Baltimore Mayor (D) Martin O'Malley (Curran's son-in-law)
