I wear Birkenstocks too. Does that make me "one of you"? I think there is hope for you. You can't be all that bad because you don't belong at DU for sure. You sound much too intelligent for them.
Actually, the Birkenstocks were metaphorical. I've never been able to wear them and keep my balance, although I do wear slip-ons.
I've never been big on DU, although part of it is that they don't let you register unless you have a non-web-based email address and part of it is that I find the graphical interface here so much easier to navigate.

They are expensive, aren't they? I used to be into that, too. There are things in life more important than nice clothes and Birkenstocks. I'm not flaming you for wearing whatever you choose to wear. Just an observation.
