Dems Block GOP Efforts in Schiavo Case

WASHINGTON - House Republicans, seeing Congress as a last hope for brain-damaged Terri Schiavo, convened an extraordinary Palm Sunday session to pass legislation aimed at prolonging the Florida woman's life. Democrats refused to allow the measure to go ahead with a vote, forcing Republicans to scramble to bring their members back to Washington.

Republicans were denying that political motivations were behind legislative efforts to reconnect Schiavo's feeding tube.

"I hope we're not ... making this human tragedy a political issue," said Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), R-Ariz. "We've got plenty of other issues that are political in nature for us to fight about."

Leaders of both parties agreed Saturday on legislation that they said would allow Schiavo's feeding tube, which was disconnected Friday afternoon, to be reinserted while federal courts review her case.

But when the House convened Sunday afternoon, Democrats made clear they would not let it pass on a voice vote, requiring the assembly of a quorum for a roll call vote.

The Democrats are the Party of Death. If Terri were a seal or a whale, they'd be screaming to keep her alive."
IF she were a convicted murder ,"they'd be screaming to keep her alive."

Could we euthanize the Democrats because they can speak but are unable to think? Please?

Plus, food and water are only thing keeping them alive in their brain dead condiiton.

So what I am understanding is, this small group of dems are here to object to this, BUT after the vote their objections don't mean much? I keep hearing that they think there are enough votes to pass the bill.

Their constant knee-jerk actions prevents anyone in their party from telling them to just sit still for a moment and think something through once in a while. Amazing!

Legalities are not what this is about.

The GOP will not stand by and let this woman be starved to death because some lawyer says so.

Yeah, and "States Rights" too. We've got them spinning in circles.

Where are States Rights when a majority of the people in a state vote to ban gay marriage and the dems want to overthrough that?

Where are states rights when a majority of the people in a state want to overturn Rowe Vs. Wade and the Dems go bonkers over it?

Dems care not a bit about states rights unless it justifies their perverted, deadly, twisted view of reality.

What is Senator McCain's problem? If he thinks that he'll get elected President this way, he'll find out that the elite Washington/New York media is a long way from grassroots Republicans in Iowa and Texas.

By the way where were all these people who were concerned with a woman's last wishes and not intervening in a family when Elian Gonzalez was snatched and sent back to Cuba?I'll BUMP to that!

Elian's mother died trying to get him to the free world, so Clintern's Wookie could send him back to hell at the point of a JBT's machine gun.

DISGUSTING.

"The Democrats don't want to be seen as killing this woman."

Snort. CNN's Joe Johns reporting on the House hang up a while ago said that it was rules blocking the approval of the legislation. Not the Dems, mind you, it was the rules.

And, I fully expect the USSC to refuse to hear an appeal. BTW, the Supreme Court has already ruled on the Schiavo case.

Except the Federal court will see this from anew, they will accept other evidence that will be introduced. I fully expect the Federal court will do the right thing and let Schiavo live.

IF all else fails, can the president issue an executive order, I wonder if this is why GWB is hurrying back to washington?

Legalities are not what this is about.

You're right. Politics is what this is about.

The GOP will not stand by and let this woman be starved to death because some lawyer says so.

Because 19 Florida judges say so. Get it right.

If you're in favor of Congress intervening in every state court issue, you better get ready for your ox to get gored when it's an issue you oppose.

Right, the lawyers act as if their ability to impose their will on the majority is limitless.

It is not.

We must never, EVER allow those who are against saving Terri (Dimocrats) off the hook for this. We cannot let time erase the memory.

Every time anyone (Dims) who was against saving this woman speaks anywhere, they must always be brought to task as aiding and abetting torture and murder of US citizens.

Every time a supporter of anyone (Dims) who opposed saving this womans life speaks, at rallies, town halls, anywhere, we must always remind them they are supporting those who advocate torture and murder of US citizens.

As horrendous as the killing of tens of millions of babies in this country has been over the past few decades, this may be the case that pushes the 'silent majority' over the edge.

Many say there are no real differences between Republicans and Dims, but in this instance the differences are stark. Republicans value the sanctity of life, Dims value death!

Dims will holler, scream, fight for the rights of murderers, rapists. They scream when a terrorist has underwear put on their head, saying this is humiliating torture.

What about starving a US citizen to death? They are fighting to allow this to happen.

Never, NEVER let this be forgotten.

There are. That is what makes this so sick. This "protest" vote is resulting in that woman not receiving food and water for a longer period of time and in the end it means NOTHING so long as terri can hang on because the House will approve the Bill. If she dies, they are partially culpable. The Democrats are playing politics with terri's life. They are scum.
