speaking for myself - I'd just like to stop MAKING law - it's not their job...
EVERYONE needs water. She is dying alone, without water. This is the most shameful thing done in America, surpassing even the terror kidnapping of Elian Gonzalez. How in the world can decent people support a government like this? But then many Germans supported Hitler and many Russians loved Stalin, so I suppose those without hearts find each other.
Do you mean the Morphine overdose scenario? So one will not feel each neuron as it shorts out and dies.
"she CAN swallow...but anyone who tried to feed her by mouth got in big trouble"
For three years I worked 4 7.5 hour shifts a week working in the "nursery" section of a nursing home. These kids could be as old as 18 but mentally they were infants. This has been 30 years ago but I had 2 kids that could accept food orally but we had to use a tube because there was a chance they would choke. So they could swallow but the tube was precautionary.
Exactly. And from what I understand, Terri was able to swallow but MS had the G-Tube put in (years ago) because it was more convenient.
I wonder.....how much does it cost taxpayers for mentally retarded people --that live in state group homes?
the BIG difference is that the dog would given a shot and drift off - forever. You'd be jailed if you starved it to death
The judges are breaking the law. Florida passed a law & Greer said ignore it.
It's amazing isn't it? I am shocked at this whole situation...I realize quite a bit.
Good point.
Hildy, I am a nurse, and I have been in contact with most of the other nurses here.
We disagree with you.
I was comparing the similarities in the train of thought to the two statements in my post.
This is humane. It's done all the time. She's medicated. You truly believe the people doing their jobs are that cruel?
You know the top Scientology lawyer gave Greer an award for legal service. You know what Scientology thinks about such "defectives" as Terri. Nothing in this case is as it seems. There is a lot going on behind the scenes. Least of which are Michael Schiavo's real reasons for wanting to legally murder Terri

Scientology, The Clearwater Bar Association, and Judge Greer
Judge George W. Greer presides over Florida's Sixth Judicial Circuit Court. He is known internationally for the Terri Schindler Schiavo guardianship case. Pat Anderson, former attorney for the Schindlers, characterized Judge Greer's unprecedented rulings as "The Rule of Terri's Case."
The Clearwater Bar Association is delighted with Judge Greer's performance in this particular case. They presented the John U. Bird award to the Pinellas-Pasco Circuit judge on May 15, 2004. This prestigious award, which is the Clearwater bar's highest honor for a judge, was granted to Judge Greer for the way he has handled himself while overseeing the Terri Schiavo case!
Robert Dickinson III, the outgoing president of the Clearwater Bar Association, cited Judge Greer's handling of the Terri Schiavo case in terms of "passing the test":
"Rarely is a person's mettle and faith tested in such a strenuous and public way as this gentleman's has been over the last few years," Robert Dickinson III said. "Rarely do mortals pass the test with such flying colors."
(Quote source: Lawyers laud judge in Schiavo case) [bold emphasis added]
I find these words rather ominous when I reflect on "the test" Judge Greer has been passingall these years. Judge Greer's consistent practice of upholding Scientology doctrines over and above Florida law is being lauded by the Clearwater Bar Association! The "test" Robert Dickenson III is alluding to is the "test case." The euthanasia test case.
Greer is "passing the test" with flying colors because he is permitting Michael Schiavo to abuse, exploit and neglect his disabled wife in defiance of the Florida statues. And the Clearwater Bar Association cheers.
Scientology attorney Wally Popewho represented his "church" in the Lisa McPherson casewas the individual selected to bestow this high honor on Judge Greer! Wally cited high ideals, personal character, and judicial competence:
"Yet, in the teeth of all that, he has steadfastly demonstrated exactly what the John U. Bird award was created to honor: high ideals, personal character, judicial competence and service," lawyer Wally Pope said before bestowing the honor.

I don't want to bomb you with snippy comments but you can't keep people alive indefinitely; I don't object in the least to helping those who can't help themselves; and in Terri's case there was a dispute as to what was best for her and death by dehyrdration was chosen as the default.
An extraordinarily cruel and vile thing is happening in Florida.
"This is humane. It's done all the time. She's medicated. You truly believe the people doing their jobs are that cruel?"
Why not...you believe this is HUMANE.
Only problem is she far from ready to die. Thousands of institutionalized persons are in worse shape than her. I could live as she is if I had such loving parents and family. You likely could not.
Her care does not require her to be in a facility at all.
Being able to feed yourself with your own hand has never been an issue before.
There was credible testimony that Terri was able to take jello off a spoon at least once. Feeding her by spoon was forbidden by court order.
If forbidding spoon feeding is the threshold then all quads, many Downs kids, most CP kids and stroke victims are candidates for euthanasia.
Do you know if it was just a retention vote or if there was a contest of any kind?
Anyone who supports Terri's death this way, please explain the difference.
