We have here a court-ordered homicide. No governmental agency or private individual should have authority to impose a sentence of this sort on an innocent human being.

There is no justice here. This is judicial murder pure and simple. American courts are turning into Kangaroo Courts worthy of the old Soviet Union. I am hanging my head in shame -- and dread, and even fear. Who has the right to rule on her "quality of life???" No judge, and no doctor should be in a position to impose his "quality of life" views on any individual, let alone if he imposes a death sentence on an innocent human thereby.

Think this through.

There are no controlled studies about starvation period unless you want to dive into the medical records kept by the Third Reich.

With holding food and fluids happens a fair amount of time in cases where Cancer has reached the terminal stage, a lot of Cancer patients self starve.

It is usually not absolute, They don't quit eating and drinking absolutely. Usually they under nourish over a period of months. As death approaches they don't have the energy or the interest in food.

Usually fluids are refused orally by the patient and the patient or family doesn't want them stuck anymore to start IV fluids.

There are no studies period to study what happens with abject starvation and withdrawal of fluids in to a healthy body. It is unethical to study it.

"If there is a difference, explain it to me."

You may want to get a soda or something...I think you are in for a long wait. Your point is very well made and the silence has been deafening

Hildy, Your emotions are running rough shod over your ability to think.

I would quit my job rather than participate in this.

I consider the whole thing completely unethical.

Hear the word of the Lord

“Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.' “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?' “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ ---Matthew 25:41-45

Hildy has to have this opinion in order to live with the experience with her father.

To believe that this wrong will throw her into an emotional and spiritual crisis about how things were handled with her Dad.

She has totally projected herself and her situation into a box where it doesn't fit.

Republicans and right-to-lifers are exploiting private pain for political gain here. They are god-damned ghouls.

What does that make Michael Schiavo, trying to kill his wife for his money?

heard on Laura Ingles this AM that there were 30,000 on feeding tubes in this country today. Wonder how long it'll be before they all jump on the new bandwagon of compassion?

Your replies don't surprise me at all. Since you were able, as you've described many times on FR, to abort your only child with zero regrets, why would you have any compassion at all for a total stranger like Terri?

As for the legality of her starvation, I'm sure it was legal in Nazi Germany to gas Jews and the disabled. That didn't make that right either.

The 30,000 figure is probably 1% of what is really out there.

Bill O'Reilly claimed last night that it costs $80,000 per month to take care of her and that this is taxpayer money.

This is exactly how the Nazis tried to get approval for their euthanasia program, by talking about how much the invalid cost the German economy...sickening.

Oh, I know that. I even know about the holding company that takes the state funded facilities 'donations' and redistributes them.

People scream that this is a state issue; yet, my tax money is finding it's way to the Florida hospices.....so, it is my business.

Yes, and there are about 3 million plus in nursing homes where many are fed with a spoon. That's why this case is special and why W and the congress stepped in. Something very wrong in FL. I used to rest easy in the belief that I lived in a caring, commpasionate country. I couldn't tell you how fearful all this makes me, now. I'm praying for our country.

If only they'd just given those "undesirables" some morphine first, then we could all feel good about it.

didn't know Hildy aborted her only child with no regrets. If that's true, why are we even talking to her?

" Hildy had to have this opinion in order to live with the experience with her father"

I was so glad to read your post. This is exactly what I've been thinking. It's the same way with women who have had partial birth abortions. If they don't defend it the guilt will overwhelm them.
