The whole Terri Schiavo story
WorldNetDaily.com ^ | March 24, 2005 | Diana Lynne

Posted on 03/24/2005 6:49:32 AM PST by thouworm

The life and death tug-of-war over Terri Schiavo is a 12-year-old court battle that remained under the radar of most major news outlets until recently. WorldNetDaily was among the first national news organizations to cover the story back when it primarily occupied the headlines of the local press in Southwest Florida, in November 2002.

As the rest of the news world works to catch up on this complex, multifaceted, precedent-setting case, readers have asked WND about errors and glaring omissions in the current widespread media coverage....

In view of this, WorldNetDaily has decided to mine our extensive archives to compile a comprehensive analysis of the Terri Schiavo story.

"Under Florida law, a feeding tube is considered a life-support device on par with a respirator."

This statement jumped out at me, since I had just yesterday real this article on the perversion of the terminology in the euthanasia issue by its advocates.........

http://www.internationaltaskforce.org/fctwww.htm

a short snip:

Euthanasia proponents have learned a lot about public relations in the six decades since the Euthanasia Society of America made that first attempt to gain legislative approval for mercy killing. One lesson they have heeded is that all social engineering is preceded by verbal engineering. If words or their meaning can be changed, the quest to change hearts and minds will be achieved.

Today when mercy killing is discussed, it is couched in euphemisms -- words of gentleness or the language of rights. Titles of euthanasia advocacy groups contain words like "compassion," "choice," and "dignity." Even the Euthanasia Society of American has undergone name changes to present a more positive image. (In l976 the Euthanasia Society of America changed its name to the Society for the Right to Die and, in l991, it became known as Choice in Dying.)

This is entire story is starting to sound like something one would expect from Alfred Hitchcock or Edgar Allen Poe.

Isn't that interesting...and revealing.

Schindler family attorney Barbara Weller similarly reported the severely brain-injured woman cried and yelled out that she wants to live after being told her life-sustaining feeding tube was about to be removed by court order.

Weller essentially told Terri Schiavo, "You had better say you want to live or they will kill you. Just say you want to live."

Terri Schiavo responded with a drawn out, "IIIIII," then screamed out "waaaaaaaa" so loudly that a police officer stationed outside the room came in. The officer then ordered Weller removed from the room, according to prominent pro-life activist Randall Terry.

The event was witnessed by Vitadamo and her husband, Michael.

Wow. Gov. Bush needs to send in the National Guard.

This whole story tears at my soul. I have a 15 year old nephew who suffered severe brain damage at age 4 after falling into a pond, drowning and then being resuscitated 11 years ago. He has been on a feeding tube ever since and has very limited responsiveness much as Terri shows. the big difference in my nephews case relative to Terri's situation is that he's been lovingly and relentlessly cared for by my sister and the home nurses she's hired.

Just in the last six months he was started on some ground breaking hyperbaric therapy in which the patient is pressurized for 1 hour periods of time and given almost 100% pure oxygen. Since he's started this new therapy, (done by a docter in Jacksonville, FL by the way)he's begun to laugh at the appropriate time when watching videos, is trying to ennunciate words, smiles and giggles when my sister tickles him, moves his arms and shows other physical activity that has been totally absent for 11 long years. The physician treating my nephew tells my sister that she's very hopefully given my nephew's progress that he'll get to a point where the feeding tube can be removed and he'll be able to lead a more normal life.

Who's to say that Terri couldn't show these same improvements if her murderous husband had simply allowed the current and cutting edge therapies to be tried on Terri.
I ache for this poor woman.

AMEN!!! I think so. The facts of this case have been obscured by philosophical debates and endless court proceedings that ignore new evidence. The injustice is stupefying.

Ann Coulter has an editorial in WND this morning: Greer has cut off the legal rights of Terri's real family and made her husband (now with a different family) her sole guardian, citing as precedent the landmark "Fox v. Henhouse" ruling of 1893.

Yes, I agree. JunkYardBlog http://junkyardblog.net/archives/week_2005_03_20.html#004121 covers how this happened in Florida and cites two other blogs worth reading, one of which is entitled "Something Fishy's Going on In Pinellas." Events are moving so fast, I haven't had time to look into the details.

"Felos dismisses the allegations and innuendo of scandal as desperate "delay tactics" mounted by the Schindlers and insists his client is acting out of love and respect for his wife's desire to "die with dignity." "Who in God's name would subject themselves to what he has gone through for any other reason?" he said. "He always deeply loved her." Any man with a weak sense of morality, and a strong desire to control others. His usual prey would be women because he sees them as weaker than himself and easier to control. After reading the affidavits of the nurses who have come forward I see a pattern of abuse. If Terri suffered from bulimia, I would suspect that her treatment by Michael was a contributing factor. Now he cannot give up control of her life or he loses even more self-respect and further weakens his estimation of himself.
