We are all going to die -- maybe by super-volcano, maybe by auto accident, maybe by cancer or heart attack, maybe by terrorist attack. The sooner one accepts mortality, the sooner one can get-on with living life.

I realize that more than you could know. The reason I posted the information about La Palma is wake up U.S. authorities about the possibility. Do we have military operatives monitoring the island? Could terrorists set off bombs and cause a huge landslide triggering a tusnami?

The sooner one accepts mortality, the sooner one can get-on with living life -- Not to imply that you do not have deep insights into this idea.

Why don't you explain your comment? Enlighten the world with your wisdom.

This isn't my wisdom. It is a well known axiom that a true pretext (research) does not prove any implication by one who quotes it. Or, as Churchhill said, "There are lies, there are damned lies and then there are statistics."

Countries all around the Atlantic rim could be hit by killer tsunamis at any time between now and the next 10,000 years, the British government's chief scientific adviser said.[AFP/file]

Nice of them to narrow the time frame.

The Brits are worried about frightening the masses. That is why they were soft peddling this news report. However, scientists are swarming all over this island right now because of rumors of recent volcanic activity. No one has any idea if Islamic terrorists might be able to trigger a landslide yielding a HUGE trunami. But the Mullahs were rattling their swords over 'horrible prophecies' for flooding all over the East Coast in March.

USC just completed a study of the California coast because of swarm quake activity. They were worried about Tsunamis and wanted to weigh possible economic damage. Their report stated that Long Beach was a prime target and estimated total economic damages as over $ 40 billion. Report Linked Here

I used to live on Ocean Blvd. just blocks away from that beach.

I don't care who quotes who. There is evidence that tsunami's have generated from the Canary islands in the past. Dismissing this evidence as scare mongering is the ultimate ignorance. How many lives could have been saved if a tsunami warning system was in place in the Indian ocean?

Tens of thousands!

"There is no way a tsunami would happen in the Indian ocean. It's so geologically rare, it would never happen in our lifetime, your just trying to scare us."- made up quote from a now dead tsunami victim.

So what? I still say such reports are designed to get people to react emotionally. They tend to spend more money that way. A doctor once told me, "If someone is bleeding from his jugular, you can save him but, you have to take a deep breath first."

If the Atlantic states were to all start lobbying against each other, much money would be wasted.

Secondly, the question lets beg, at whom the article is directed. If it were being directed at anyone who could do anything about it, the author would have framed a broader argument. In other words, an overall likelihood and damage prediction forecast for the atlantic region instead of, "Hey dudes, there's this really big chunk 'o mud that could, like, blow up and kill us all!"

You live in Texas? When a hurricane is twirling around in the Gulf of Mexico do you react "emotionally" when your house and family may be in its path? Give me a freakin break.
"Hey dudes, there's this really big hurricane that could, like, blow up the coast and kill us all!"

It's a shame they wasted all that money on those useless weather satellite's.

Money for a tsunami warning system? President Bush has already taken care of it.

Of course I react emotionally. But, I do not act out of that emotion. I still take a moment and get my thoughts together even if it's a twister: count the kids, run out to the ravine, etc. First, though, I don't live on the coast. It's always riskier than inland everywhere. BTW, I never said something aught not be done - only that it aught not be done hecticly.

Who was it that said, if God spares this nation from His wrath, he owes Sodom and Gomorrah an apology.
