Pa. College Professor Arrested at Schiavo Hospice
NEPA News and AP ^ | March 29, 2005 | AP

A professor at a Bible college near Scranton, Pa., was arrested Tuesday as he tried to storm into the hospice caring for Terri Schiavo.

Dow Pursley, 56, was zapped with a Taser stun gun and tackled to the ground by officers before he reached the door, Pinellas Park police said. He became the 47th protester arrested.

Pursley, who is on the faculty of the Baptist Bible College & Seminary in Clarks Summit, Pa., had two bottles of water with him, police said. He was charged with attempted burglary and resisting arrest.

Baptist Bible College officials said in a written statement that Pursley was not acting on the school's behalf and had traveled to Florida on his personal time.

"He is a dedicated man with strong beliefs and God-given convictions," the statement said.

Pursley is the clinical director of counseling programs for the theological college's graduate school. He also helps oversee a campus clinic that offers psychological counseling based on biblical teaching.

Baptist Bible College spokesman Mark Robbins said that while the college "believes in the sanctity of life," it has not taken an official position on the Schiavo case.

Doctors said that Schiavo, 41, would probably die within a week or two after the tube was removed on March 18. She suffered catastrophic brain damage in 1990 when her heart stopped for several minutes because of a chemical imbalance.

Does anyone know the connection between George Soros and Michael Schiavo's lawyer?? Evidently the lawyer runs some sort of "pro-death" organization that is funded by Soros...heard it on Mark Levine tonight.

Dear Jorge,

This man wasn't storming the gates of any courts. He was trying to give water to a woman dying of thirst.

As for Jesus, He did take a whip to the moneychangers in the temple.

"He got himself arrested."

Yep Deacon he did. He tried to give a thirsty woman water and armed thugs stopped him.

Then why aren't you getting yourself arrested for a cup of water that ends up on the sidewalk?

The man knew it would not help Terri.

The bullets would start flying then.

Let's say our mob of "water bearers" kept their distance, but looked menacing.

Yep. This husband that supposedly only wants to fulfill his wife's wishes hired a bunch of euthanasia activists - lawyers AND doctors - several years before he remembered that she didn't want to go on living.

"These people who claim to represent Christianity with this bizarre behavior are an embarrassment."

Perhaps to you, to me they represent the Church Militant.

Good intent, but I have to wonder if we aren't getting beyond a point of no return. By now her organs must be starting to shut down. Damage is being done that cannot be undone by water and food.

Humanly speaking, I agree. But then we all know that nothing is impossible for God. Jesus has raised many from the dead. And so I hold out a little hope as another show of God's Mercy towards us.

My biggest concern is that when Terri goes to her reward, what will be left for us???

The man knew it would not help Terri.

It's the symbolism. How many congress people would have turned on Terri's drip and gladly accepted arrest and imprisonment? Many, I hope.

""burglery" is technically defined as entering, or attempting to enter, a property for the the purpose of committing a crime."

The crime? Illegal hydration! No hydration without articulation! Death to the silent! Unpersons of the world, STARVE to death.

Unfortunately Terri has become a poster girl for "The Right to Die" movement. What if she's aware of all this and has no such ambitions. That is why many would rather err on the side of life.

Christianity and Christians themselves and their actions , have always been considered bizzare by the world.

If such an act of attempted kindness, seems bizzare to you, perhaps it is you who has problems.

He was trying to give water to a woman dying of thirst.

He knew SHE would NEVER get the water BEFORE he did it.

So who was it really for?
I really find these useless public displays to be disingenuous and self-serving.

He will wear this criminal record as a badge of honor after the manner of Rosa Parks.

All the saints commemorated as Confessors (and a lot of the Martyrs) had their society's versions of 'criminal records'. I guess Baptists aren't into saints (except in the generic sense of 'saved Christian') and don't commemorate the Confessors for Christ, but they have a new one.

I know the man. I am not surprised. He was an action-oriented guy who is not afraid to think outside the box. At 56 he may be less agile than when I knew him, but the way I remember him, if he had been trying to hurt those officers, he would have.
