I thank God every day that this country produces fine men, and women, like that. I am in awe of their courage, their love of country, and their spirit. I am in awe of the sacrifices they and their families make. I am humbled.
To those that serve, and to their families, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. As Americans, we should live each day to make ourselves worthy of your sacrifice.

"How about 2nd. Lt. Brian Chintosh...(I hope I spelled his name correctly)?"Also, does anyone know the status of Sgt. Brad Kasal's commendation? I believe he was nominated for CMOH.

Note the number, 1522, awarded during the "Civil" War - they must have been handing them out like popcorn. In some cases, yes. There was an instance of every man in a regiment being awarded the MOH to encourage their re-enlistment. There was an effort right after WWII to 'clean up' the MOH registry and remove the award from many who had gotten it under questionable circumstances. I am not sure if the 1522 figure reflects those awarded, or those awarded who got to keep the MOH.

When an exploding enemy mortar round severed 2d Lt. Bobo's right leg below the knee, he refused to be evacuated and insisted upon being placed in a firing position to cover the movement of the command group to a better location. With a web belt around his leg serving as a tourniquet and with his leg jammed into the dirt to curtail the bleeding, he remained in this position and delivered devastating fire into the ranks of the enemy attempting to overrun the marines.Damn. That is hardcore. The acts of these MOH recipients leave me amazed.

I think he once worked for Dukakis.

I'm very proud that our nation can still produce people like Sgt. Smith. It seems that in today's culture most would have cut and run. God bless him.

A salute to the man and thanks to his family for sharing him with our country in a time of need.
I'm very much surprised that he's the only so far....many great stories of individual heroics have come from this conflict and Operation Enduring Freedom.
