"He pressed the gas pedal and the truck sent mud and dirt flying -- but didn't move."

I wouldn't have been surprised if they would have used him for target practice... That's the way these things usually end.

Dang. Next thing you know that boy is gonna be driving for Roush or Evernham. Probably some Nascar talent scouts having a look at him right now!

Who wants to bet that daddy taught him how to "drive"?

I doubt the child would have attempted this if dad hadn't put the child in his lap for a few test drives.

It's great that fathers spend time with their children and teach them how to do things in the world, but how about a little responsibility and common sense: the right things in the right time.

The other aspect of this is lack of discipline. I never would have attempted such a stunt as a child because I knew I was not allowed to do such things, even at that young age. Children learn this very early on if they are firmly guided (and spanked) as they grow up.

Fortunately, for all involved, no one was injured. But things could have turned out far worse.

"other drivers called police saying they couldn't see anyone behind the wheel."

I often see cars drive by with no apparent driver. But if you look closely you can see 8 whithered up old knuckles gripping the steering wheel.

Officers coaxed him out by telling him they would take him to play with his friends; then they took him to the police station.

At least tasers weren't involved. I daresay I hope a 2" wide patent leather belt is, though. Studs are fine, too.
